My story

Meet Enya, a wise and wonderful soul whose silver-tinged face carries the quiet beauty of resilience and the warmth of unconditional love. This grey Pit Bull Terrier may be considered a senior, but don’t let the number fool you — Enya’s heart is young, her spirit is strong, and her charm is simply timeless. Enya arrived at Melissa’s Second Chances last year as a stray, her body tired and her past unknown. Thanks to the love of our volunteers, the support of the Grey Muzzle Grant, and a whole lot of TLC, Enya has transformed. Today, she’s thriving — joyful, radiant, and adored by everyone who meets her. She’s become such a beloved part of our rescue family that we built her a room of her own: a quiet, cozy sanctuary complete with a donated couch, soft blankets, and even art on the walls. This mellow girl is everything you’d want in a companion — calm, affectionate, and deeply intuitive. She walks beautifully on leash, rides well in the car, and is perfectly content whether you work long hours or from home. She’s kennel and potty trained, sleeps soundly through the night, and loves nothing more than a good treat, a soft place to nap, and being close to her people. She’s snuggly without being clingy — the kind of dog who just gets it. Enya does need to be the only pet in the home. Her past includes a few rough experiences with other animals, so she’s still learning how to feel safe in those interactions. She’s not reactive on walks and is happy to coexist at a distance, but she’ll thrive in a home where she doesn’t have to share your love or her space. A patient family willing to work on crating and rotating could also help her continue to build confidence. She’s sweet. She’s steady. She’s survived hard times and still leads with love. The kind of love only a senior dog can offer — deep, grateful, and unwavering. Enya is eligible for our Foster-to-Adopt program, which means you can take some time to get to know her in your home before finalizing the adoption.
