My story

Teddy (Animal ID: A070140) is a neutered male, charcoal gray Akita believed to be about 11 months old. He is currently at a foster home, but the foster is unable to keep him anymore and there is no space for him to come back to the shelter. While at his foster home, he has been crate trained, potty trained, learned to use a doggie dog, and has learned to live with three other dogs. He also successfully graduated from PetSmart’s 6-week basic training and knows sit, down, leave it, shake, and other simple commands. He loves to go for walks and go for car rides. Common to his breed, he does resource guard and can be destructive when left alone for too long. He is still a puppy, learning discipline and routine, and how to be a dog. An adopter that has experience with the Akita breed would be best for Teddy. Our vet tech at the shelter reported that Teddy's overall health is pristine. He is a very healthy 11 month old puppy that is neutered, micro-chipped, and up-to-date on all of his vaccines. There are no concerns regarding his health at this time. Here’s some additional information about Teddy from his foster Mom: • He burns out pretty easy on walks, so he won't necessarily need an extremely active owner. He does enjoy hiking and running though so he could build up his stamina. • He listens extremely well. If told "no" or "to stop," he will listen the first time. • She is currently working with him on resource guarding. As a puppy, this tends to get him in trouble with the older dogs. • He doesn't try to door dash and is overall very well behaved. • He loves to go on car rides. • He will need someone with a plan for what to do with him if they don't have someone at home all the time. He currently lives in a foster home where someone is present 24/7. • Overall, he needs someone that is prepared for a puppy and familiar with the Akita breed.
