My story

Meet Gusto!Brought in as a stray from Claremont Park. Now one of our longest-stay pups looking for a fresh start.Gusto is a 4-year-old medium mixed breed who lives up to his name-he's got a zest for life and a whole lot of love to give! Found by the 44th Precinct and brought to the shelter back in September, Gusto has been patiently waiting for his person ever since. He's playful, goofy, and full of energy-but also deeply affectionate once he gets to know you.🏡 My Ideal HomeGusto is looking for an experienced adopter who can provide structure, daily exercise, and enrichment. An adult-only home would be best for this excitable pup, as he's still working on his manners and can get mouthy when overstimulated. Gusto would thrive with someone who's ready to channel his enthusiasm into fun training games, long walks, and lots of love.👶 Good with Kids?No children under 13, please. Gusto can get mouthy and overly excited, especially when he's being petted or when new people enter his space.🐕 Good with Other Dogs? He's been non-reactive on walks and greeted dogs gently through the fence. Off-leash, he may avoid overly rowdy dogs, so he might enjoy a calm canine companion or prefer to be your one-and-only.🦮 Leash MannersGusto starts out a little bouncy but generally walks well on leash. He'll happily prance by your side and check in frequently-and he's great at turning every walk into a little adventure.🩺 Overall HealthGusto is neutered, microchipped, and up to date on all vaccinations. He came in underweight but has gained healthy weight during his stay. He's been treated for occasional GI upset and skin sensitivities but is currently doing well.🧠 Behavior Determination: Level 3Gusto is excitable and can become over-aroused, particularly when he's getting attention. He'll need an adopter who's comfortable working with big feelings in medium-sized packages. Force-free training and consistency will be key to helping him settle into home life.🎉 One Fun FactA volunteer said it best: "Gusto's joy is contagious. Even on the grayest, coldest days, he'll remind you to find something to smile about."💸 Adoption Fee: $75Gusto has been waiting longer than most, and every day he greets us with his signature tail wag and happy bounce. Come meet this lovable goofball-he just might be your perfect match.A Volunteer Wrote: This hilarious pup could not be more perfectly named! He was a little overly-hyper when he first arrived, but these days that energy is channeled firmly into JOY. He's great on a leash on our walks, never jumping but occasionally bouncing along with happiness. Even on the rainiest, winter-iest day, his glee is contagious. He appears housetrained, didn't bat an eyelash at passing dogs, and enjoys treats almost as much as he enjoys affection. When we got back from one outing, he promptly climbed into the lap of a staff member who was kneeling down, eager to share the love. Gusto is a gem!  Primary Color: Brown Secondary Color: White Weight: 47.5 Age: 4yrs 7mths 4wks

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Gusto, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
