My story

Apply to Adopt Me! Saxon is a resilient, affectionate 8-year-old terrier mix (about 40 lbs) with a big heart and an even bigger smile. His journey began with heartbreak—he was found abandoned in a field with a rope tied around his neck and was facing euthanasia in a shelter. Thankfully, a team of caring people gave him a second chance, and he’s been thriving ever since. Now in a foster home, Saxon has been adjusting beautifully to life in a house. He follows his people around with a joyful grin and a constantly wagging tail. He loves love and will happily give you a gentle kiss now and then. Though he enjoys plush toys and chasing balls, fetch is still a mystery—he’ll run after the ball but prefers to keep it rather than bring it back. He’s learning to share and is currently working on resource guarding. He just gets a little grumbly if someone wants his toy or another dog wants his person. He has had no outbursts and simply putting your hands up to remove yourself (if he’s guarding a human) or distracting with a treat (if it’s a toy) works wonders.  Saxon is incredibly treat-motivated and loves to “work,” making him a great candidate for ongoing training. He’s completed a board-and-train program at Diversity K9 and will need continued training sessions with his adopter as part of his transition. Saxon has two benign masses on his tummy, but they pose no health risks and don’t require removal. He’s house-trained and he’s low-energy overall—more of a calm companion than an active playmate. He coexists peacefully with the fosters' 35-lb. dog but isn’t looking for a doggy best friend. Calmer dogs who respect his space are best. Saxon is initially uncomfortable with lots of handling and needs a patient, experienced adopter who will go slow, respect his boundaries, and help him feel safe. Some of his favorite things? Rolling in the grass, walks, treats, ice cubes, and just being near his people. If there is a comfortable spot, it is exactly where he wants to lay. &#226&#184&#187 Saxon’s Ideal Home:     •    No children     •    Dog-savvy, behavior-experienced adult(s)     •    Someone committed to continuing training (sessions with the trainer are required)     •    Daily walks (a fenced yard is not required, but always a nice thing to have as he likes to be in the yard whenever his humans are)     •    Calm environment with respectful handling &#226&#184&#187 Saxon has been through so much, but his spirit remains full of love. With time, patience, and care, he will reward you with deep loyalty, gentle companionship, and a heartwarming presence by your side.  If you live in the Central Florida/Orlando area and believe you have the perfect home for Saxon, complete an app and tell us more about you.
