My story

The perfect companion to your pup! Hi pals! My name is Philo, and I’m a 1.5-year-old Dachshund mix, weighing in at 18 pounds.  I’m a good ol’ boy who’s already been neutered and in great health! I am fully bathroom, crate and leash trained. I was initially rescued from a hoarding situation in Riverside, and let me tell you, that was a ruff time in my life.  A shelter soon took all 140 of us in, and I was one of three that was listed to be euthanized due to how fearful we were.  Thankfully, though, TAP scooped me up just in time (along with my pals, Rigatoni and Rio), and things have been looking up ever since! As far as my personality goes, I’m a high-energy boy with a goofy personality on my own.  I can be a bit naughty at times, but I love to play 24/7 – especially with other doggie friends – and take walks.  I’m already potty-trained and crate-trained, and I show no signs of separation anxiety.  Due to my past, however, I don’t like to be touched. I have made little progress in this area and you will need to take special care when putting and taking my leash off. I have a special designed leash to allow minimal contact with me to safely and effectively get my lead on and off. I am not a cuddly guy and do not seek affection from humans. I am all about my canine companions and still feel most comforted and confident around them. I will always be a true “dog’s dog” and weary of people because of my past, and need an understanding adopter that will not force me to do anything out of my own pace and need a lot of trust building. I have recently started Fluoxetine (~$5.00 for a 2 months supply, Price depends on where where purchased and market value). I will need to continue this medication as it has shown to be effective and positively helped me in my resource guarding. I have made big strides and will continue to need structure and management in the home for my crate and toys.  I am working on my training and know the following commands: “crate” “inside [car]” and am working on “place” and “touch” (him touching the foster). My ideal home would be one that has at least one other doggie sibling for me to play with, if not more.  I’m a submissive kind of guy and am able to get along with female dogs or large male dogs only.  I love to play and flirt with the girls and hang with the big boys! Kiddos are a “no” for me, though, since their unpredictability and noisiness scares me.  Other than that, though, I’m a sweet boy who will bring a smile to your face! My adoption fee is $300 and that includes spaying/neutering, shots, and microchip.  If you want to take me home, please fill out the form on the website here: https://theanimalpad.org/adoption-application/. ##1960158##

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Philo, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
