My story

When we accepted Nova into our facility, we knew that she was deaf. A deaf dog is fairly straightforward to care for, especially one that has lived with a family and knows sign commands like Nova does. Unfortunately, life was not kind to Nova. A blood clotting disorder complicated her spay and turned a simple procedure into months and months of medication, fighting to heal her body, and re-injury. Nova nearly died bleeding out into her stomach post-op, and that created a litany of health problems. She lost use of her back legs and during that time, her toes were broken. Her body rejected one of her toenails and caused massive injections in the broken toes. After procedures to correct this, red light therapy, antibiotics, steroids, pain medication, wrapping and cleaning the foot day in and day out, Nova is now medically cleared, only a little worse for wear. Her movement is back to normal - she plays, runs, jumps, and rolls around with the other dogs. Nova has survived more than most other dogs ever have to in their lifetime:-Being surrenderd by her family of origin who had her for 4 years of her life - since she was 6 weeks old due to fleeing a domestic abuse situation-Nearly died bleeding out into her stomach after her spay -Losing movement in her back legs -Breaking multiple toes -Repeatedly re-injuring wounds on the top of her feet caused by dragging them -Vet appointments, months of medication, daily foot soaks, daily wrapping of foot wounds-Months in a cone -Surgery to amputate the tip of her toe and remove the infection Despite all of this, she has never lost her spark. Her zest for life remains, and she has retained incredible for the staff that had to provide painful and invasive medical care multiple times a day. Enough about her suffering! Here are some fun facts about WHO Nova is: -Dog friendly-Raised with small children of all ages -Incredibly affectionate - loves to give kisses -Enjoys car rides -Consumate blankie enjoyer (she has been caught multiple times self-soothing and suckling on her blankets)-LOVES sunbathing -Fond of creek adventures-Zoomie connoisseur-Toy devotee -Ruthless fly hunter Nova is ready to move on from her extended stay at Faithful Friends. She has been braver than most dogs ever have to be, and it's time for her to be the spoiled pet instead of complex care patient. If you'd like to know more about Nova or meet her, email adopt.ffaa@gmail.com, call the shelter at (417) 592-2512, or visit her during our open hours (Closed Mon-Tues, Open Wed-Fri 12-7, Open Sat-Sun 10-4). When we asked her first owners if if there's anything that they would like Nova's future owner to know, we were told, "She is an amazing dog. She will greet you with a smile every time you walk in the door. She loves her tiny humans; we are her emotional support people. She loves to be petted and blankets.

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Nova, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
