My story

Trooper von Trulben is a stunning 2 year-old German Shepherd. Trooper is an engaging, active and curious "big puppy." Like many shepherds he has multiple facets. He loves to have fun and play, including with other dogs. We laugh when he goes to the toy box and selects a toy, tosses it around, then goes back for another. Trooper is friendly and sweet with all of us at the rescue, he loves attention and leans in for pets. In a home setting he's shown some protective shepherd tendencies. For that reason, and because he prefers to dine alone, he is looking for an adult home with shepherd experience. Trooper needs some guidance and structure and likes to keep busy; he needs a good-sized yard and active lifestyle. Another playful dog would be great, as this boy runs happily into the play yard to greet other dogs and soon invites a play romp. He's also great around dogs on walks. While he's not for cats, he has done well meeting a small dog. Trooper is a smart dog, he knows his Sit and Down commands, rides well in a car and is housebroken with access outside. Mixes are "softer" and somewhat more malleable. Exceptions can be made, however, for first-time adopters who show the confidence and leadership tendencies that purebreds will respect and respond to. Counselors have to use good judgment in assessing the attributes of the adopter, as well as of the dog. If you have doubts, get a second opinion from Robin or another experienced counselor.
