My story

`Flapjack is an adorable dog who needs a special home. He is very, very shy. But once he feels comfortable enough to open up, he melts into your arms. Flapjack is also a toy lover and can entertain himself for quite a while. He walks well on a harness but does not tolerate either slipleads or leashes that attach to his collar. Flapjack is housetrained, but will likely need a touch up on housetraining when transitioning to a new home. Because of his sensitivity, he would not do well in a home with young children or in a home that is regularly visited by young children. He must have access to a secure fenced yard. This is because he will not let people leash him until he is comfortable, which may take several weeks. To give an idea of Flapjack`s shyness, it took over 10 days for Flapjack to let me touch his back and over 2 months to pick him up or cuddle him. He very rarely lets my partner pet him (it is possible that he prefers females). One of several things that make Flapjack special is that, even though he`s fearful of letting most people touch him, he strongly desires being around people. Occasionally, you may feel his nose gently bump against your leg as his way of showing that he`s following you. He would likely do best in a home that has fellow small dogs or a person who is home most of the time or drops by during lunch hours if working full-time. Even though he prefers having company, Flapjack hasn`t shown much separation anxiety. He will occasionally bark at visitors but is otherwise fairly quiet. Flapjack has lived peacefully with two small dogs and a cat, but he seems to be scared of large dogs. He can be protective of certain toys, but if the fellow dog doesn`t react, then Flapjack calms down on his own. Overall, Flapjack needs a special home that will show him patience, gentleness, and loving respect. Patience pays off though, and nothing beats having Flapjack`s sweet face peering back at you as he rolls over for tummy rubs.`

If you have any questions or would like to adopt FLAPJACK, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
