My story

D.G. is the total package! Despite coming from a less than stellar situation where he was not properly cared for, his motto is "ever the optimist" and he is very trusting of humans and is making excellent progress towards getting back to a healthy weight! He is a happy, friendly guy who would be well suited to a variety of home environments. He is the perfect balance of happy to go for a run/play fetch in the backyard OR snuggle on the couch/lounge on his dog bed while his foster mom works from home! He takes the cake for "world's greatest foster dog" and is looking forward to becoming a forever dog to a person/family looking for a nearly perfect companion! He knows several commands (sit, shake, down, roll over, "drop it" as a release word for fetch) and is eager to learn more, especially if treats are involved! He is fantastic with our children (ages 8 and 5), and gets along well with our very reserved Corgi. We believe he could get along with both laid back or energetic dog friends and would likely match their play style, but he does have a keen interest in chasing squirrels, so may need a gradual introduction to cats/small animals. He seems to be 98% house trained (only one accident in 2 weeks, and it was right by the back door, but we were not watching closely enough...oops!). He does well being crated and will typically go into his crate on command with treats! He sleeps on a dog bed in our bedroom and is not destructive or disruptive at night. He also loves to go for car rides and is calm in the car! He could use a little work on leash skills, but does not pull excessively and is very responsive to correction. He is an excellent vacuum cleaner and will eat any dropped food - to include green beans and brussels sprouts - but is also respectful of space and will lay quietly on his bed during human mealtime! He loves to be inside with his humans, but is also content to sunbathe outside from time to time and does not scratch at the door - just waits patiently to be let back inside!

If you have any questions or would like to adopt D.G., please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
