** $640 in pledges for the rescue that pulls ** ** Interested foster through rescue ** Jax ACCT-A-170518 and Samson ACCT-A-170519 are currently considered urgent and at risk of euthanasia due to medical concerns. Jax and Samson must have confirmed placement with a RESCUE PARTNER by Thursday August 15th at 10 A.M. Should Jax and Samson's medical or behavioral status change, their urgency and timeline for placement may also change. Jax and Samson came in as owner surrenders on 8/1 when their owner was hospitalized and unable to care for them. Unfortunately, they have come down with progressive shelter acquired upper respiratory infections that are putting them at risk of declining, so they are urgently seeking placement with a rescue partner. They were very fearful and fractious when they arrived. On 8/3 staff noted that Jax was "fractious attempting to run escape and flee. Cat is stressed. Samson was also displaying fractious behavior. On 8/4, they noted that Samson was "tense, growling, hissing and had airplane ears. They were both started on gabapentin for one week to help them settle in. On 8/7 during a sedated check in, staff found Jax to be approximately 7 years old and in good health other than having a "severe flea infestation and covered in live fleas with thinned patchy fur. Samson was estimated to be 4 years old and was in good condition overall. On 8/11, Jax was noted to have an upper respiratory infection and was started on Doxycycline, Cerenia, and Elura, and was given fluids for dehydration. Jax tested negative for FIV and FeLV. On 8/13, he was noted to be drooling with dried debris caked on mouth and vesicles and ulcerations at the back of his throat. He also has mild gingivitis, a dirty, diffusely thinning hair coat, and prolonged turgor. He has a very thin body condition and no interest in food. His courses of Cerenia, Elura, and fluids were extended and he was prescribed Buprenorphine and Clindamycin for the ulcers. On 8/12, Samson was started on Doxycycline as he was showing signs of an upper respiratory infection as well. On 8/13, his symptoms were also worsening, so he was started on Cerenia, Elura, and fluids. He was "Shut down, does not enjoy handling but allows it. On 8/13, they allowed petting, but Samson flinched away at first. Both are diagnosed with progressive upper respiratory infections, poor body condition, and chronic dermatitis (possibly due to flea allergies). Jax and Samson are in urgent need of placement with a rescue partner to prevent further decline at the shelter.
