My story

Meet Derek! 🐾 Derek may be a little shy when meeting new people – he has some stranger danger and needs patience to feel safe. But give him time, a few meet-and-greets, and space to open up, and you’ll discover the most loyal, goofy, cuddly, and loving dog you’ll ever meet. Once he trusts you, it’s like flipping a switch – out comes the silly, galloping, giant puppy who will keep you smiling every day. He loves playing with his chew bones, showing off his zoomies in the yard, and curling up right next to you. Derek is truly a soul-dog in the making. 💛 DNA testing revealed he’s American Pit Bull Terrier, Boxer, and Staffordshire Terrier. He’s reliably housetrained, keeps his kennel spotless, and thrives on a consistent routine with familiar people. Derek isn’t a brewery-or-patio kind of dog – he’s more of a “stay home and snuggle” companion. He’s dog-friendly and enjoys a playful canine buddy. Currently, he lives with some cranky furry foster siblings and has worked hard to learn boundaries and social cues – and he has come so far! Derek hasn’t lived with cats, but his furry foster brother has taught him they’re fun to bark at on walks, so it’s unknown how they’d do in the same home. Derek’s adoption includes 3 free training sessions with Fowler and Family Dog Training to help him settle in and continue building confidence. He’s also eligible for our Foster-to-Adopt program, giving you the chance to get to know him before making it official.
