Meet Rootbeer! Rootbeer was a stray from the San Diego Humane Society that we rescued to in May 2022 to become a Frosted Face. His adorable personality made an immediate impression; he was never without his favorite stuffie in his mouth, had lots of pep on our weekly FFF hikes, and did great in our play yard with other small dogs. After earning a rave review while he was on a two-week Frosted Fling, it wasn't a surprise that Rootbeer was adopted and became a loving, devoted little brother to another dog. Sadly, two years later, Rootbeer's adopters moved across the country to care for family members, and they couldn't take him with them. We always take our dogs back, and we are committed to finding Rootbeer a forever home where he will be loved at least as much as he loves his stuffies! Here's the full scoop on our buddy Rootbeer: Going slow = cuddles: When you meet him at FFF, please take a little time to allow him to warm up with you. Once he feels comfortable with you, he is very affectionate and loves sitting in your lap for snuggles. Trust us - it's worth the short wait to earn Rootbeer's trust! He gives the cutest kisses! Playtime: He still has a blast playing with his favorite stuffies. He loves when his humans join in to play fetch but is also content to play by himself. Balanced energy: He has just the right amount of energy. Rootbeer is always up for a walk but also loves sleeping in and taking naps. If you are busy, he is content to lounge or chew on a stuffie by himself. No separation anxiety: He can be left out while you are gone and doesn't get into anything. We would monitor him on camera, and he is quiet, no barking. Good with other dogs: Whether in his recent Foster home, where Rootbeer got along great with the two resident dogs, or in our play yard with 15 small Frosted Faces, he's a peach! Typical day in his Foster home: Rootbeer loves mealtime and gobbled down his wet food and kibble softened with warm water. He spent most of his days curled up in a fuzzy blanket or sunbathing on the turf. Rootbeer's foster family had him wear a belly band inside to avoid accidents if they weren't available to take him out every couple hours. At night, he slept in bed with his foster parents and their dogs. Things to know: Rootbeer has a history of resource guarding, which presents as him having a stronger attachment to one person in the home, leading to grumbles in the direction of the other person in the house on occasion. His recent foster mom explained it this way: "What I want potential adopters to understand is that Rootbeer will pick a favorite (my partner, in our case) but that is OKAY. It doesn't mean that I don't have a meaningful relationship with him. I get lots of affection and lap time with Rootbeer. Going slow when handling him is a must. Rootbeer requires a little bit of effort to make him feel safe and comfortable, but he is so easy to love and so worth it! We absolutely adore Rootbeer." Rootbeer currently lives in a Foster home. If you think you might be the patient and understanding family our special boy needs, please email placement@frostedfacesfoundation.org to meet him.
If you have any questions or would like to adopt Rootbeer, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
