My story

You know what’s great about adopting a dog from a foster home? Not only do you get a ton of knowledge about the dog’s in-home behavior, but they have also had a chance to decompress from shelter stress. And it opens up that foster (me!) to take in another at-risk dog who may need some home notes and time away from the shelter. So if you’re looking for a young, fun and athletic pup who will keep you on your toes during the day and then melt into you like a furry weighted blanket at night, my foster Rooks may be the one for you! With his striking good looks, playfully goofy personality and super sweet snuggly side, he would make a great addition to your family. This smart and energetic boy was brought to PACC as a stray on June 14, 2024. Initially he tolerated shelter life and loved to roughhouse with his kennel mate but after a while, the stressful environment took its toll on this young boy. He found himself on emergency placement deadline in November and a volunteer advocate dog walker who saw his potential swooped him up to safety. While in foster, Rooks has made some pretty big improvements. He has found a rowdy playmate in Fluffy, a like-size resident male dog and has learned to calmly coexist with 2 of the like-size females and the smaller 20-lb senior male (who aren’t big players). While he still needs some guidance, he just really loves to play so he would like to find the right match if an interested party has a dog or two in the home.Rooks is very smart, pretty fearless and opinionated. He has the nose of a bloodhound so scent training could be an endeavor. Potty training is a work in progress but is improving with a watchful eye and frequent breaks. He loves to rip apart stuffies, explore with his nose and learn new tricks. At bedtime when you rub his ears, he just melts into your hands and looks at you with those expressive eyes. Checkmate! He’s got your heart. Rooks will not do well back in the shelter environment so his foster is really hoping he can find the right home. He would do best with a fairly experienced owner but does come with free professional training for post-adoption support. Please ask to meet this vibrant young pup who is the perfect mix of sass and sweet.

If you have any questions or would like to adopt ROOKS*, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
