My story

******Please note, once completing the initial screen you will be connected with the placement for a video chat. Transports run every few weeks and we will have the dog on the next available transport once approved. If you are not able to accept a dog until a specific time period, please apply at that time************ We are a volunteer run rescue and donate our time to these dogs. IF you are not serious about moving forward in our adoption process, please do not apply. If someone other than yourself is part of the decision making process, please make sure you have spoken with them and they are on board. We really do not want to waste anyone's time if you are not serious about adopting this dog. Hope, 2 years old, spayed female, Retriever mix, 42 pounds. She is in a foster home in HOUSTON, TEXAS and can transport out of State once an adopter is approved. Hope's story is really why we rescue. Her foster mom was driving to the airport in Houston when something caught her eye off the highway. She still does not know why she pulled over, but she did. This side of the highway was covered in trash- clearly a dumping ground. She walked around and spotted a dog (Hope) sitting on top of a crate with two puppies inside. She immediately called for help and the whole family was moved into a temporary foster until she returned from her trip. Hope is a resilient dog and we are excited to find her an adoptive home. Both of her puppies have already been adopted. Hopefully it does not surprise you that upon meeting new people Hope will give out a bark. This can happen when her foster's friends or family come over or out on a walk. She needs some reassurance, baby talk or some treats and she learns quickly you are a friend. She is not mean acting and we know she does this because she is just unsure. She now shares a foster home with two other adult resident dogs. She is always wanting to play and loves other dogs. Her foster mom thinks she trusts dogs more than she does people. She is can be fairly active when first meeting and has come a long way in her manners and picking up on ques. We anticipate in a new home she will need some time to adjust to any resident dogs. She will be best suited for another playful dog. As noted above, when she is walking by herself she is more uncomfortable passing people/dogs she does not know. When walking with her four legged friends, it's clear she feels more at ease. She does tend to pull on leash and will need continued practice in this area. We do not think she is cat friendly. She has not been around kids, so we suggest a home with kids 10 years and older. She can get the zoomies and have spurts of energy. Hope is fully housebroken and really loves her crate. She has not shown any issues with food or treats around the other dogs or with humans. She is playful, silly and affectionate once she has time to know you. She LOVES bones and toys that are food dispensers. She would really love to cuddle 24/7 if you let her. She rides great in the car- jumps in and seems to enjoy the ride. She was a great mom to her puppies- protecting them until they were rescued. One of her puppies had a vision impairment and she helped her navigate. She is obsessed with belly rubs. Hope is looking for a home with another dog to keep her company and build her confidence. She would love a home who is active and will be patient with her as she navigates new faces and surroundings. ***Listed BREED and AGE - We are taking our best guess & recommendations from our veterinarian on age, breed and size when fully grown. We rarely know a dog's exact age nor are we able to tell the true or full breed mix of dogs as our information is limited most of the time. *** Interested in applying to adopt her? Fill out an adoption application at the link below! https://www.shelterluv.com/matchme/adopt/DDAR/Dog

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Hope, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
