My story

Shy. This cat was left behind when his owners moved. A kind neighbor fed him for the past year. But Shy continued to live outside. When the feeder noticed the cat looking less lively and not his normal self, they started looking for rescue placement. Shy is a neutered male. Middle aged adult. No microchip was found. This cat is FeLV positive and to be blunt, it infuriates us. We can’t know whether he was already infected with the virus prior to being abandoned, or whether he picked it up during the past year he was on the streets. But we have a cat who was either knowingly left outside, to infect other cats with FeLV or We had a healthy cat, who is now a sick cat, because he was abandoned outside and picked up the virus from other stray community cats. Either way….people have failed him. And that stops now. Shy is a nice cat, seemingly relieved to be inside with a cozy bed. His blood work was normal except for his FeLV status. His lymph nodes are enlarged, indicating inflammation in the body, due to the FeLV. But he could still have a few years of good quality life. Shy once comfortable can be very vocal and affectionate. He likes to make himself known by head butting your legs and slamming his face into your hand. He also loves his wet food and comes running when he hears the can open! If you’re interested in long-term fostering or adopting this sweet boy, we’d love to hear from you! --- All of our cats/kittens are spayed or neutered, tested for FeLV/FIV, vaccinated against Distemper, and treated for fleas and other parasites. If you want to meet a specific kitty, please inquire with us before attending an adoption event, so we can make every effort to have the requested kitties available! --- Adoption center is located at 7962 CLYDE PARK SW, BYRON CENTER MI 49315. Our shelter is open by appointment only. Applications must be submitted and approved before appointments will be set. Applications can be completed at http://www.focusonferals.org/adopt/adoption-application/. Our adoption fee is Kittens through 6 months $125 or 2 for $200; Kitties over 6 months $100 or 2 for $150. Come on out and meet the love of your life!

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Shy, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
