My story

Duchess is on site at our adoption center in SoHo! Meet Duchess, an 9 1/2-year-old mixed breed female dog with a beautiful fawn and white coat. Despite her hefty size of 75lbs, this chunky gal walks incredibly on the leash with no pulling. This couch potato is such a lovable pup who just wants to lounge at your side to be pet. Her behavior in the home is great: not only is she fully housetrained and non-destructive, but she is also content to relax quietly while you're out of the home with no issues. Duchess' prior notes indicate that she has great potential to live with cats (noted as ignoring them) and she has a great track record of living with and greeting small dogs nicely. Duchess may show leash reactivity towards medium/bigger dogs, especially rowdy ones that bark, as well as bigger/taller men but she is easily redirected with her favorite thing: TREATS! Her foster notes are stellar: "She likes going out, likes go to the lawn and quiet places, when she likes the places she walks fast. And she loves to be petted, and likes to sleep beside me." They report she walks nicely on the leash and is very good about waiting to go out without having accidents or acting out in the home. She always comes to her name when called. "She's really smart and understands lots of things you say to her...she loves go walking... And she loves to be petted for a very long time, and she likes to be around with people....". She is a love bug, likes to sit by you and settles in well. She is house trained to the tee no issues. Duchess' ideal home involves a couch a snooze on, tons of treats, and most importantly, lots of love - could that home be yours? Duchess is spayed, microchipped, vaccinated, and had preventative treatments to ensure she is ready for her new home. To meet Duchess, visit the Best Friends New York Soho Lifesaving Center at 307 West Broadway, New York, NY, near Canal Street. We're open daily from 11:00 am to 7:00 pm. Please remember, pets cannot be held or reserved. Come by and see if Duchess is the perfect match for you!

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Duchess, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
