My story

Ellie MaeI first checked into the HSHC in March 2024 because the other cat in my home had epilepsy, and those seizures caused me no end of stress. I was overgrooming, pulling out my hair to the point of going bald. My owners noticed that I always hid when there was a lot of activity in the home. So we all decided I needed to find a quieter home. I am a 9-year-old black and white lady cat, already spayed and litterbox savvy. Because the shelter atmosphere was not calm enough, I moved into my first foster home in June `24. My foster mom indeed let me take all the time I needed to feel comfortable and settled. At that time, I was still easily scared, especially by sudden or unexpected movements, but when my foster dad was near, I would walk up to him and request pets by putting her paw on his arm, head-butting or licking his hand, and purring nonstop. When I was sent back to the HSHC to live, I began to backslide into my old shyness. So, seven months ago, I moved into a new foster home. Over time, I`m still a timid cat, but I continue developing my relationship with them! They tell me I am very sweet and can be goofy at times. I have become a more affectionate and playful cat. Although I still don`t like being approached by my foster mom & dad (FM & FD), I will seek cuddles, lick them, and demand pets when they are lying in bed. I`ve also improved my relations with their two cats. I may hiss or swat occasionally, but we are never together unsupervised. I prefer the male cat over the female, and we have multiple moments of good sniffs daily and maybe some small play attempts. My favorite thing is to sit by the open screened window. I love seeing the birds fly by and feeling the fresh air on my face. The best time of day to interact with my humans is the evening and early morning. I reserve the daytime for my naps! My FM thinks I have the potential to get along with other cats, but I still have a bit further to go. Given these lovely observations about me, you know that when I feel comfortable, I become a charmer. My ideal home will consist of everyone being 13 or older, patient, and understanding. I am excited to meet you! When may I expect you? 5-6-25
