Woody is a 4 year old male dog who came to ACCT Philly on 3/26 as a stray. While here at the shelter, Woody has struggled with fear and stress and has been unable to show his best side to potential adopters and would benefit from someone with the patience and care to show him how to feel safe. Read what ACCT friends have to say about Woody: 4/20 Per Staff: Just had Woody out to reassess his fear. I've only met Woody once, and it was over a week ago, but when I walked up to his kennel he was bright and wiggly and friendly. He was excitedly pawing at the door but got down and stood still when I reached for the latch, he's such a good boy! He walks pretty well on leash, but can be a bit of a puller. Outside he immediately let me pet him all over, and was leaning in and rubbing his body against my legs happily. I did some crazy stuff to see if he'd react at all, including jumping, high knees, pulling his ears and tail, and he didn't react to anything, just sniffed me happily and soaked up the attention. He allowed all over handling without any issues and was a perfect gentleman. When returning to kennel he hopped right in without any issues as well. Woody has opened up so much in his time with us, and is blossoming into a friendly, confident dog! 4/9 Per Staff: Woody got out for some fresh air today! In kennel he greeted me with soft eyes and a wagging tail. He was easy to leash and hopped right out. Woody is a pretty good walker, but pulls pretty hard sometimes. He walked with a slack leash for a good portion of our walk, but when he saw or smelled something interesting he would pull strongly toward it. When we got to the yard there was a dog outside of the yard about 30 feet away that Woody became fixated on. He was crying and bouncing at the fence, wanting to go say hi. I was able to redirect him with toys and play, but every so often he would go back and check out the dog again. Woody is a sweet, fun guy! He chases balls but didn't bring any back, and he enjoyed mouthing and shaking a stuffed toy as well. He like squeakies and perks up when he hears one. I ran around with him and he didn't jump on me at all, just ran along side me! After our play session Woody was pretty tired and just wanted to sit near me and get pets. He looves attention, and will lean his body against your legs for pets. He even jumped up on the bench with me and sat next to me, leaning against me lightly. We hung out for a while, enjoying the breeze and getting love. Woody likes to give face kisses but isn't overwhelming, just gives a couple then goes back to enjoying his attention. When it was time to return Woody walked back the same as before, mostly slack with some pulling. He jumped right in to kennel without issue and took a drink of water. Overall, Woody is a sweet dog that loves attention and play! 3/28 Per Staff: When I approached Woody's kennel the divider was already lowered for cleaned. He was standing on his kuranda bed slightly tense with perked ears, wide semi soft eyes, and a low tail. I spoke to him softly and showed the leash. He gave me a few wags but remained on his bed. I let him sniff the leash and then was able to lasso him on the first try. Once the leash was over his head he exited without issue and walked calmly past multiple people. Woody was nervous upon entering the room. He was not tense but was very vigilant and nervous of his surroundings. I sat in a chair giving him some space and he approached me with soft eyes, He took treats gently from me for a couple minutes and then began to pace the room and do some laps. He then came back over taking some more treats and had soft eyes. I lightly pet his head while he chewed on a treat. If I tried to pet him without treats he would duck away a bit and flinch so we took things very slow! After a few minutes he allowed me to pet down his back but would still tuck his tail and duck away at times appearing uncomfortable. He is very food motivated and they really help him to warm up. He warmed up as time went on and even showed me knowledge of Sit, Shake, and Down! When medical staff evaluated Woody, he was found to be suffering from an ear infection and some other minor skins issues. He was treated with Enrofloxacin (EKT.) If you are a rescue interested in pulling this animal, please email our lifesaving team, or visit here if you are not currently a rescue partner: https://acctphilly.org/acct-philly-love-local-partnership-program/ Due to being significantly overcapacity with dogs and cats and higher than usual intake, extensions are unlikely to be granted. If you are interested in an animal please contact ACCT Philly immediately. Due to limited space, timestamps may also be proceeded with early so it is imperative to let us know if you are considering adopting or tagging a dog or cat. Confirmed placement is considered confirmation of an actual rescue pull. Possible placement, interested parties, and other "TBD" statuses are not considered confirmed and do not indicate an animal is no longer urgent All animals at ACCT Philly are from Philadelphia, as the only open intake animal shelter in Philadelphia, we are not able to accept animals from outside of Philadelphia.
