Meet Parker, a young pup on a journey to discover his confidence in the world. Initially reserved, Parker is gradually revealing his true self. His interactions during outdoor time with staff and volunteers showcase his budding puppy energy and growing trust. While treats and toys didn't capture his interest at first, Parker is now embracing his playful side. He adores stuffed toys, sticks, and anything he can chew on. His favorite pastime? Bringing his toys over to his handlers and settling down in their lap for some quality bonding time. Parker is also curious about other dogs and enjoys their company. However, his time with us has been stressful, highlighting his need for a patient and confident companion in a forever home. He thrives in environments where he can take things at his own pace and where there's ample opportunity for him to flourish. Parker is Timestamped due to length of stay and is eagerly awaiting a loving home or rescue where he can truly relax and reveal the vibrant personality he's been hiding. Are you ready to be his guiding light? **NEW** 4/17 per staff -Parker did amazing for a drop leash meet with Jax. He did some rough and rowdy play and push and pull, as well as taking good breaks to reset. He has some puppy tendencies and likes to mouth a bit at dogs, but was gentle. He loves to play chase and will sprint as fast as he can. When Jax didn't prefer chase play, Parker switched to a different type of play too! At one point Parker did find a tennis ball and was running around with it- it took a bit of time for us to get it back from him due to his fast running, but in that time he displayed no guarding when the other dog was face to face right next to the ball. They also did drink from a water bucket together and again he displayed no guarding. 4/14 Per Volunteer - Parker was sitting by his kennel door and I easily leashed him to go for a walk. He is a steady walker and upon exiting the yard into the sidewalk, I noticed Parker's tail slowly wagging. We walked up the street and Parker started slowing down as he saw a person on a bicycle in the distance. I decided to turn around in case the bicycle person was causing Parker to be concerned. Parker did loosen his body when we turned around. On the way back, Parker grabbed something from the sidewalk and held in his mouth. I told him to leave it and after a couple of seconds he dropped it (the item looked like a piece of wood). Parker also turned his head when he heard the sounds of birds chirping. We stopped in the large run and Parker found a toy on the ground and he was so happy that he did some rounds of zoomies. I told Parker to come here and he brought the octopus toy to play at my feet. Parker saw a dog on the other side of the fence, followed the dog and did not bark. I went next to Parker and gave him some pets. We went back to playing with his toys. When the other dog came by again, Parker went to the fence again and seemed curious. I called out to Parker, showed him a new stuffie toy, ans squeaked it. As he came towards my direction, I tossed him the stuffie and off he went with his new best friend. He jumped once on me while I was standing out of excitement and I held his paws briefly. He did not jump again. He rolled over several times when he was playing with the stuffie. He allowed belly rubs. Parker does take breaks from playing and will lie down. I motioned him to the A-Frame to see if he could climb it. I put his Stuffie up top and after a few moments, he followed my lead as I walked up the A-frame. I didn't go all the way to the top and he stopped when I did. I gave him the Stuffie and he descended the A-frame. It was time to go back to the kennel and Parker surprised me by leaving the stuffie behind. Later the same day, Parker had two good dog meets in the shelter. 4/13 staff noted: Parker did amazing today for activity time. He was so eager to come outside, even pushed the kennel door a couple times (gently) -he's come so so far in his kennel presence! He trotted happily by my side and again was completely non reactive to all the dogs barking at him, would occasionally give them some wags and want to sniff through the kennels, then move along. We had a brief dog meet with another dog, where Parker was super excited to play but unfortunately the other dog was continuing to mount Parker, and even when Parker gave an appropriate correction, he didn't stop, so we ended the meet. In the play yard he ran around and got so much energy out playing, and also spent lots of time cuddling. We did another dog meet as well, with a dog that displays lots of dog reactivity. We did multiple laps in a walk along, Parker walked great and would wag at the dog occasionally but really wasn't pulling me. When they met face to face, he was excited and loose. When the other dog growled and charged him (I pulled him back), Parker had absolutely no reaction and kept on wagging. We attempted another face meet after some more laps, and again the dog reacted to him, and Parker did great. I crouched down and he came and cuddled while the other dog was still nearby, he was so relaxed in the presence of the other dog. He went back into kennel without issue, and sat at the front for his hug goodbye. 4/12/24 staff noted: Parker was lying down at the front of his kennel and got right up to greet me at the front with soft eyes. He let me leash him in one go and then began his mid level wags as we walked. While dogs barked at him in the kennels he kind of looked around curiously, but continued wagging on. He used the bathroom right when we got outside. He saw another dog on leash while we walked to the run and he got sooo excited and zoomed around play bowing. In the yard he went right to play and had a blast chasing toys in the yard. He played with tennis balls, hard toys, soft toys, anything I'd throw for him he'd get! He also is great at independent play if he has toys to occupy him. When I sat on a bench he grabbed his toy and came right over and lay by my feet. At one point, a member of the public very unexpectedly entered the play yard (mistakenly) and Parker remained lying at my feet and just kind of looked at him curiously. He was extremely affectionate with me, as always, leaned in for scratches and hugs constantly. He trotted back happily. We did come in close proximity with a community cat -Parker kind of looked over like, "what in the world is that" and then walked away. Returned to his kennel and waited at the front as I gave him his hug goodbye. 4/9/24 staff noted: Parker was standing at the front of his kennel with soft eyes and mid level wags, and let me slip my leash on in one go. He came right out and greeted me happily on leash, trotting by my side. He used the bathroom and went right to pets in the play yard, lying down in my lap and giving me kisses. He grabbed a toy and rolled around with it, would bring it over and sploot in my lap. He loved running around and playing with any toy I offered him. He met a new handler and was relaxed lying down nearby her, gave her some licks too. On the way back, he stopped by the door to go in (he always stops and sits), and I crouched down and he came right over sitting in my lap for goodbye hugs. Went back into kennel without issue. 4/6/24 staff noted: Parker was standing at the front of his kennel with mid level wags (first time he's stood at the front waiting to go out!), and easily let me open the door a crack and slip my leash on. He excitedly trot by my side to the iso yard, and went straight to cuddles! He stood up on me for hugs, leaning in for all over pets. We sat on the ground together and he rolled around in my lap for scratches. I brought a bunch of toys out there prior and Parker was SO playful. He had a blast with the stuffed toys, nibbling on them, playing fetch. His favorite is bringing one right over to your lap to lie down while he chews it. He also loved chewing on a hard toy and carried it (most of the way) back to kennel. Such a sweetheart. 4/6/24 staff noted :Parker was lying down on his kennel bed when I approached, looking at me with soft eyes. He came forward right away still a bit lowered, but came right up to the leash. Once we exited kennel he shook off and began mid level wags happily trotting by my side outside. He used the bathroom a bunch right away as he always does. In the yard he was super social and sweet with me. We sat on the ground together and he lay in my lap, kicking his legs for scratches and rolling over displaying his belly giving constant wags. He enjoyed chewing on sticks and is now confident enough to display more puppy behavior! He was doing some more mouthing and also was cobbing on my arm -appreciate the gesture but it was painful so I gave him a stick instead and he happily redirected. We ran around together in the yard and he'd jump on me often, standing on me for pets, and then we'd run around a bit more. Unfortunately I couldn't drop leash due to the fence in the iso run, but I think Parker would probably enjoy chasing toys! He isn't super interested in tennis balls but loves stuffed/rope toys. He even was so happy to hold a rope toy in his mouth as we walked back to kennel. 4/4/24 staff noted: Parker was lying down in his kennel bed on his side, sprawled out and relaxed (a huge improvement compared to previously having been on the floor in a tight circle). I opened the door and crouched down and he did a big stretch and came forward a bit lowered but with some low wags. He licked my face and shook off, stretching often as we walked out of the building. He was sooo much more relaxed and would check in with me with low wags, and wasn't on guard in the same way as the day before. He used the bathroom right away, and enjoyed sniffing around. Unfortunately I couldn't drop leash due to the fence falling over in the iso yard, but luckily Parker wasn't fazed at all with being kept closeby on leash. He came to me whenever I crouched down and leaned in for pets, licking my face and sitting between my legs. At first he was shaking bit from being cold (it was very rainy) but after shaking off and playing he warmed up! Parker took no time to get confident and immediately began engaging in play with me. He stood up on my shoulders giving me hugs, hopped around happily, got some mini zoomies on leash. He mouthed my hands gently and enjoyed chewing on some sticks, as well as holding a stick while getting butt scratches. He is so goofy and again was very set on grabbing pebbles while we were out, but would let me take them from him each time. Parker was such a brave boy and walked great back to kennel, greeting me on leash often, and walking right back in sitting at the front as I removed his leash. 4/3/24 staff noted: Parker was lying down in the middle of his iso kennel looking at me with soft wide eyes. I opened the door and crouched down and he did a bit of a submissive crawl towards me and let me slip my leash on slowly. He walked with me to the iso run pretty on guard and fearful, flinching often, lowering himself, looking around to his surroundings. He does appear to be afraid of PPE and was fearful of it swinging around in the wind :(. Parker is super housebroken and used the bathroom right when we got to the grass. In the iso run I dropped leash and did remove the leash since his fear of leashes is pretty severe (and I know him). He gave some brief whale eye as I took it off but then shook off and untucked his tail once he realized what I was doing. Parker walked around the perimeter of the yard for a while with a low untucked tail, lowered body, flinching often at sounds, and again on guard of his surroundings. He wasn't comfortable with me being super closeby and would retreat to be behind me. I ignored him for a while, just doing laps around the yard and eventually he began trailing behind me. We did this for around ~10 minutes and he got closer and closer with time. I crouched down intermittently and would give him a brief head scratch -he avoided eye contact but when it was kept in short spurts he'd give some brief low wags. I did this every so often for a while, and he began to seek out attention from me. When I crouched he'd come sit by my legs and lick my face a bit. He began leaning into handling, and following me around more excitedly. He started kicking his leg with scratches and fully settling and displaying his belly. I then began to initiate play, running around a bit and he had so much fun! He does the cutest little hops towards you, had little random zoomie spurts. He'd jump up on me, standing for pets, and when I crouched down he enjoyed just standing on my shoulders giving me a hug. He got more and more confident over time, giving me lots of affection and even shook off and used the bathroom a bunch of more times. We played for a while, cuddled for a while, he gently mouthed my hands, and was playfully picking up pebbles and chewing on them. He'd let me take the pebbles right from his mouth, then go and look for another pebble. I slipped the leash back on and he gave some excited wags and a brief hop around, and was so much happier on the walk back. He'd check in with me often, greet me with mid level wags, and wasn't paranoid of his surroundings at all. He went right back into kennel and once I took off the leash he went right to work on his lickmatt (which he previously hadn't touched!). Parker is definitely having a bit of a harder time in iso but he is the absolute sweetest when he trusts you. 3/28/24 staff noted: Stressed in kennel- hard barking, lunging the bars, spinning On 3/27, Parker developed an upper respiratory infection and has since completed his course of medication. 3/23/24 volunteer noted: When I approached Parker's kennel and opened the door, he laid down on his belly for leashing. He allowed leashing but seemed nervous and pretty stiff. Outside he remained very tense in the play yard, shaking and tail tucked. I sat down on the opposite end of the yard to give him some time to explore. He sniffed in his area but never came close to me to initiate any contact. Not overly interested in treats but took them when I dropped them in front of him, and took them from my hand very gently as well. Didn't show any interest in toys but he seemed pretty shut down. He opened up a bunch when another adoptable dog Jersey walked by. He loosened up and even gave some tail wags. We did a face meet- Jersey came on pretty quickly and Parker was tolerant but remained pretty stiff. We then moved to a meet through the fence when Jersey went into a play yard and Parker seemed much more comfortable. Definitely a scared boy who is unsure of his surroundings, but seems like he'd do well with another confident dog and with some time. 3/22/24 staff notes: Saw Parker. for intake exam and vaccinations. Parker was visibly fearful, but was SUPER SWEET. He curled up in my lap and hid his face in the crook of my arm and accepted some cuddles and "scritches". Parker was not excited to go back to kennel and tried very hard to keep us cuddled up. No muzzle or restraint was necessary to complete vaccines or microchip implant 3/22/24 staff noted: Attempted initial intake exam 3/21, per staff Parker was unable to be leashed and was lunging at the kennel door with dilated pupils 3/22/24 volunteer Noted: When I approached Parker's kennel and opened the door, he laid down on his belly for leashing. Per staff, Parker was unable to be leashed and was lunging at the kennel door with dilated pupils. He was started on Trazodone, which he has since completed. 3/21/24 staff noted: Parker was nervous in kennel on approach. He was avoiding eye contact, ran to the back of his kennel with a lowered tense body. The handler closed the divider, and he stayed at the back. She crouched down and spoke to him softly but he didn't come forward. She began lassoing which he would dodge and lower himself from. Eventually she leaned in and was able to slip a wide leash on him, which he tried to dodge but once on he slowly came out. Pulls Moderately On Leash. Neutral/ Allows all handling. Parker was a nervous and shut down man in the room. He curled up on his main handler's lap. He remained curled up on his handlers lap for 90% of the time outside. He allowed all handling and was extremely gentle while outside with us. He was very gentle taking treats as well. No interest in play or toys. 3/21/24 staff noted: I brought Parker out for some relaxation time while I had a meeting. He was again hesitant with leashing and backed away but soon came forward in a bit of a submissive crawl and froze as I slipped my leash on. He came right out and used the bathroom. He wandered around the eval room, was much more curious about exploring compared to before! He ate some treats, would switch between sitting in my lap and exploring around. I got an antler and he was very interested in it. He's a bit spoiled and if he drops it he waits for you to pick it back up and give it to him. He even likes you holding it while he chews. He was sooo affectionate with me and loved sitting in my lap giving me kisses. He looks up at your face so lovingly it's so sweet. He came and sat on the bench with me when I moved. He also got soo silly with time, loved playing with a squeaky toy and began gently mouthing! He was rolling over in my lap and doing leg kicks for scratches, and was excitedly pawing at me for more play. He went right back into kennel without issue, but was a tad nervous of me taking the leash off.
