My story

Meet Brutus - The Underdog Who Just Wants to Be Loved šŸ¾šŸ–¤ Brutus has been waiting. For four long years, this sweet, misunderstood soul has called Castoff Pet Rescue home. And while we’ve come to adore him, what he truly needs-and deserves -is a home of his very own. Brutus is around 8 years old and about 45 pounds of loyal, loving energy. He still enjoys a good walk, playful moments, and curling up for cuddles with the people he trusts. Once Bruty lets you in, you’ll see his silly, affectionate side -and you’ll know why we all love him so much. But here’s the thing - Brutus needs a very special person. He’s been through more than we’ll ever know, and it shows. He’s shy. He’s uncertain in new situations. And he’s especially nervous around men he doesn’t know, likely due to a rough past. That means Brutus will only be adopted to an experienced dog owner or professional trainer who can offer patience, structure, and compassion. He does great with female dogs and is fully house-trained and vetted. No cats, please. And when it comes to guests? He prefers a quiet home life-no big social gatherings or constant introductions. For Brutus, stability is everything. We recommend crate time when new people visit and no meet-and-greets for at least a month after adoption-he needs that time to decompress and feel safe. Adopting Brutus won’t be about quick cuddles and instant connection. It’ll be a journey—a slow, meaningful bond built on trust. But when he chooses you? You’ll have a friend for life. His foster calls him a ā€œlover,ā€ and it’s true—once you're in, you're in. Brutus has waited so long. Please, let him finally go home.

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Brutus, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
