My story

Meet Cindy and Loretta, charming feline companions whose bond is as unbreakable as the love they share. These two lovely ladies, despite facing the challenges of feline leukemia virus (FeLV) with resilience, have forged a friendship that shines brighter than ever. Cindy, the radiant brown tabby with mesmerizing swirls adorning her coat, is a beacon of warmth and affection. Outgoing and spirited, she delights in showering her human friends with cuddles and gentle kisses. Cindy's playful spirit comes to life when presented with wand toys, capturing her attention and showcasing her agility. While she may have a reserved side around other cats, her heart opens wide for her dearest friend, Loretta. Loretta, the refined and petite companion, is a tabby with soft, plush fur. She has the cutest little mannerism of raising one of her front paws slightly off the ground when she sits. Although she is more cautious and reserved, Loretta blossoms into a playful spirit, especially when in the company of her closest confidante, Cindy. Delighting in solo play with her toys, Loretta reveals her charming personality as she gracefully engages with her surroundings. Once trust is established, Loretta appreciates the gentle touch of human hands and soft pets. Together, Cindy and Loretta find solace and joy in each other's company. Their favorite pastime involves basking in the warm rays of sunlight streaming through their cat tree, creating a serene tableau of contentment. Their unique personalities complement one another, creating a harmonious balance within their shared space. These remarkable feline friends, both facing the challenges of being FeLV positive, have forged a bond that transcends their circumstances. Both are currently in good health. Their story is an inspiring testament to the power of friendship and love, proving that even in the face of adversity, a warm heart and a loyal friend can light the way to a brighter tomorrow. Adopting Cindy and Loretta means welcoming not just two cats into your home but inviting the purest form of companionship and love that these inseparable friends have to offer. About Adopting FeLV+ Cats Cats with FeLV (Feline Leukemia Virus) can live normal lives for prolonged periods of time, although they generally have a shorter lifespan than cats who are not infected. The important thing to remember is that no matter how much time they have, it will be better because they are with you in a loving home. FeLV is a virus that affects a cat’s immune system. It is not cancer, but it weakens the cat’s immune system, making opportunistic infections and some forms of cancer more likely. FeLV is only contagious to other cats. It is spread from cat to cat via prolonged, direct contact with an infected cat’s saliva (sharing food bowls, grooming each other, etc.), urine, blood, and from queen to kittens during pregnancy. FeLV is species specific, so humans and other animals such as dogs cannot contract the virus. The virus itself is not airborne and dies rapidly in the environment, so you won't have to worry about carrying the virus on clothes when you leave the house or have friends over. However, FeLV+ cats must be separated from FeLV- cats.

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Cindy & Loretta, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
