My story

Bureau of Dog Law Enforcement—Kennel License #2617Could he do well with kids? Yes, with children around 12 years old on a kid-by-kid basis. There may need to be multiple meets.Could he do well with other dogs? Yes, on a dog-by-dog basis.Has this dog lived with cats? Unknown. [The Lycoming County SPCA does not “cat test” dogs per the Association of Shelter Veterinarian’s Guidelines for Standards of Care in Animal Shelters.]---What volunteers have to say about this animal: Meet Peak – Gentle Soul, Fetch Artist, Loyal Companion in WaitingPeak is a 5-year-old retriever mix, about 59 pounds, with the most soulful eyes you’ll ever see. There’s something about the way he looks at you—curious, cautious, and full of longing—that makes you want to earn his trust and keep it forever. And he’s a beautiful boy: that face! Those ears!Peak`s Favorite Things:- Playing fetch with quiet intensity—he lives for the game- Going for calm, steady walks (he’s a total gentleman on leash) - Tug-of-war, puzzle games, and anything involving one-on-one play- Sniffing out new trails with someone he trusts at the other end of the leashAt first, Peak can be shy with strangers. If he doesn’t know you, he’ll ask you to take a moment—hold still, let him sniff, and figure you out. But once you’re in his circle? He’s joyful, attentive, and eager to engage. He knows how to sit and wait, doesn`t resource guard, and he did wonderfully with another dog during a recent intro—he was respectful, gentle, and well-mannered. Sometimes if he’s not quite sure which command you’re giving him he will just softly paw at you, and it’s the most endearing thing you’ve ever seen. He just needs slow, thoughtful introductions, both with humans and other dogs.Peak’s Ideal Home:- Adults and/or children 12+, on a case-by-case basis with gentle intros- Possibly another dog, depending on compatibility- A calm, patient environment where he can settle in at his own pace- A person who values a quieter kind of companionship—built on trust, shared walks, and the occasional game of fetchPeak has so much potential. He’s observant, playful, and steady. The kind of dog who watches the world before diving in—and the kind of companion who will give back everything you put into him, once you’ve earned his trust. He’s ready to find the person who sees him—not just the dog in the kennel, but the quiet, stead
