My story

We know that her photo is not the best... we are waiting for her foster to send us more photos -- until then, we are stuck with her shelter intake photo. Raven is a gorgeous Cavalier / Chihuahua mix. She is 5 months old, and 9 lbs. Her estimated full grown weight is 13 lbs. Raven was a victim of circumstance through no fault of her own. She was gifted to someone as a birthday present, and they didn't want a dog. Raven then ended up in a small town shelter where no dog should ever be. Farfel's Texas rescue partner was very pleased to find that Raven is very healthy, cuddly and already expressing her opinion in a sweet and friendly way. They made the collective decision that the greatest home they could imagine for Raven would be in Colorado. Farfel's was contacted (we were thrilled!) and a transport ticket was issued for this wonderful girl. Raven is just gorgeous, and received an amazing temperament report because she is just so sweet. Most of the time these rescue dogs have not had any training. Unfortunately we do not know very much of her background, but assume she has never had proper training. A (virtual or in-person) positive reinforcement group training class promotes great behavior, bonding and confidence for a young girl whose self-esteem will fly high while she masters her skills. Training is so important in the future behaviors of every dog. It's for this reason that we're unwilling to adopt to a family that doesn't make this loving choice. Farfel's is happy to provide a list of both in-person and virtual positive reinforcement / force- free trainers in your area. Our training requirement is to help every adoption be successful. Raven is up to date on her vaccines, and has been fully checked by a vet. She is not yet spayed -- spay is required to finalize her adoption and required before she turns 1 year old. (~8 months recommended). Farfel's Rescue is a fully foster based rescue, and offers a one week trial with every adoption. We feel that this is much more beneficial to not only the dog, but the adopter too. We believe that only getting 20-30 minutes with a dog before deciding on a lifetime commitment is not a fair amount of time to the adopter, or the dog. Therefore we give adopters one week with the dog to assure it is the right fit, and offer a full refund of their adoption fee should it not workout within the week trial. Farfel's Rescue has been doing adoptions this way since 2005 and is thrilled to adopt out ~400 dogs each year.
