My story

Meet Gigi – The Resilient Hound with a Heart of Gold ?? 2 Years Old • Hound Mix • Full of Love and LearningGigi’s life has been a rollercoaster of hope and heartbreak. Found with her siblings at Busch Wildlife in August 2023, she was just a puppy when she first entered our care. Since then, Gigi has been adopted and returned several times—not for anything she did wrong, but because she’s a young dog who simply needs structure, consistency, and someone who truly understands her.Despite being let down, time and again, Gigi has never lost her sweetness. She is incredibly affectionate, playful, and eager to connect with people. Her most recent return was due to separation anxiety—a heartbreaking but understandable result of so much instability. When left alone, Gigi barks, cries, and has tried to escape her crate. What she’s really saying is: Please don’t leave me again.Gigi is potty trained, crate trained, and smart—sometimes too smart! She can clear a fence if left alone outside and gets bored without mental stimulation. She thrives in a home where she is part of the family, not left out in the yard.Gigi’s Social Side: Dogs: She’s all puppy—jumpy, playful, and sometimes clueless about doggy social cues. She means well but needs help learning respectful boundaries.Cats: Gigi met a cat here at the shelter and was curious but respectful. When the cat charged, Gigi simply backed away.People: She loves people and is incredibly affectionate. She just needs a family that won’t give up on her.Gigi’s not aggressive. She’s not broken. She’s just been bounced around too many times without the training and structure she needs to succeed. With guidance and patience, Gigi will become the happy, confident companion she was always meant to be.Gigi is looking for:A home where someone is home more oftenPositive reinforcement training and continued socializationA secure yard or leash walks only (she’s a jumper!)A family ready to offer her what she’s never had: a forever homeAfter all she’s been through, Gigi still believes in people. Be the one who proves she’s right. ??

If you have any questions or would like to adopt GIGI, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
