My story

Benson is smart, loyal, and energetic!BENSON Benson is a smart and affectionate boy who is ready to become the perfect addition to the right family. He loves swimming, running, playing with people and other dogs, and simply hanging out in the yard. With excellent manners, Benson listens well and can comfortably spend several hours alone, making him a good fit for a family with a busy lifestyle. Benson would thrive in a patient, calm, and structured home. He prefers slow introductions to new people and animals and would do best in a home without cats or other small animals. He is naturally more comfortable and social with women, but he can form a strong bond with men who give him the patience, understanding, and time he needs. A securely fenced yard with plenty of room to run and play would be ideal. BACK STORY Benson and his six littermates were born at Pets Return Home after their mother was surrendered as a stray to a shelter in Yuma. Benson and his brother Barney are still here at the ranch, and they play wonderfully together. BEHAVIOR PROFILE Benson is extremely intelligent and would enjoy learning new tricks, playing with interactive toys, or relaxing with a favorite bone. He is goofy, playful, and loves being part of a family. Benson is crate-trained and is content sleeping in his crate or on his dog bed. He is also leash-trained and understands basic leash manners. POSITIVE ATTRIBUTES • Loves quiet moments and gentle affection. • Professional snuggler and couch companion. • Quick learner who enjoys training games. • Loves working with people and thrives on praise. • Enjoys being part of a family. • Already has excellent house manners. • Guaranteed to keep you smiling. BEHAVIOR CHALLENGES • Shy at first, but blossoms into a loyal companion once trust is established. • Tends to bond most readily with adults, especially women. • Thrives in a calm, predictable environment. • Appreciates a quieter home away from loud or sudden noises. • Has a sensitive nature and feels safest with a steady routine. • Has unique quirks that improve with structure, enrichment, and consistency. • Does best when walked in low-traffic areas where he can relax and enjoy himself. • May require solid fencing and some distance from high-traffic areas. • Prefers to enjoy meals and special toys in his own space. • Is continuing to learn gentler play manners. • Blossoms with kindness and patience, revealing the wonderful companion inside. • Alert and observant, Benson feels safest in calm surroundings. CAN’T ADOPT RIGHT NOW? PLEASE CONSIDER MONTHLY SPONSORSHIP You can help our sanctuary dogs, adoptable dogs, dogs undergoing treatment, and new arrivals by giving $10 or more each month. Your charitable support helps provide the food, medications, veterinary care, training, and love our dogs need while they wait for a family, recover from their pasts, or live safely in our sanctuary. Thank you for helping sustain our mission and the lives entrusted to us. Sponsor or donate: www.petsreturnhome.org/donation-portal ABOUT PETS RETURN HOME Because every dog deserves to be home. Pets Return Home is a no-kill sanctuary, rehabilitation center, and adoption center dedicated to giving euthanasia-listed, homeless, abandoned, abused, and neglected dogs a genuine chance at life. Located in Northern Arizona, we provide an enriching, free-range environment where dogs learn to trust, play, and rediscover what it means to be a dog. We specialize in helping dogs who are often overlooked in traditional shelters, including behaviorally challenged, medically complex, and senior dogs. WHAT SETS US APART We have saved more than 1,200 dogs who were once considered too “broken” to save through our rehabilitation and adoption programs. Our dogs live in a structured, free-range environment where they can play, learn boundaries, and develop healthy social bonds. They also have access to our home, where they learn household living, manners, trust, and the love of a family. Learn more: www.petsreturnhome.org WHY ADOPT? When you adopt from Pets Return Home, you save at least two lives: the dog you bring home and the dog who can now enter our rehabilitation program because space has become available. ADOPTION PROCESS • Browse our available dogs on the Adoptable Dogs page. • Complete an Adoption Application. • Participate in a telephone interview. • Complete the Hold Harmless Agreement and Adoption Agreement. • Schedule an appointment to visit Pets Return Home. • Bring your family, friends, and household dogs to meet your potential new companion. • Pay the adoption fee, receive your dog’s records, and bring your new family member home.Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.September 5, 2026, 7:21 pm
