My story

8/4/25. Meet ELLIE! This gorgeous 5 yr old volunteer favorite Dobie Shepherd mix NEEDS your HELP finding her furever home. ELLIE is an incredibly intelligent, loving, and loyal Dobermix gal. A few years back, we adopted her to a wonderful older couple, her new Dad being wheelchair-bound. From the minute ELLIE met him, she seamlessly adapted to being an ESA dog for him, lying in bed with him ever so gently despite her big size, even staying with him in his bed at the hospital. Unfortunately, her Dad passed a year ago, forcing her adopter Mom to move to a home without a fenced yard. Despite her best efforts and working with a trainer, ELLIE has just proven too strong for her to walk, and so, with a very heavy heart, she has turned to us to find ELLIE a new home. ELLIE loves playing with toys, loves the water, loves swimming in the pool, and absolutely loves her treats and belly rubs. She is good with children, but because of her size and strength, we suggest teens and up. A fenced yard would be best for ELLIE. While ELLIE likes other dogs at the rescue and does well around dogs off-leash, ELLIE is best suited as the only dog in the house. No cats. Like the good Dobie/Shepherd mix she is, she loves her people something fierce, but with a knowledgeable adopter to properly introduce her, once you are in the house, you are part of her "pack." ELLIE is probably one of the smartest dogs I have come across through the years. If you are in the market for a new best friend that will give you everything she's got and more, then PLEASE look at sweet ELLIE. She won't disappoint.Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.Not every dog is available for adoption or need a foster - some are wards of the rescue (usually due to medical reasons, but sometimes behavioral). These dogs will always be supported by DRL. We welcome financial support for these dogs. Here are links to foster and adoption applications for those dogs who need a foster home or adoptive home.
