My story

Richie is a sweet soul who was found wandering in rural Lancaster County and never reclaimed. Making it even more heartbreaking, it was determined he is completely blind. This poor boy lost his way, and no one was looking for him. His fate changed when Dolly's Legacy scooped Richie up from the local shelter so that he could get the specialized care he needs. He was taken to a veterinary ophthalmologist where it was determined his blindness is due to cataracts. We scheduled his surgery with high hopes his sight could be restored. When he went back for additional pre-op testing, it was determined his retinas had detached, rendering him no longer a candidate for surgery. Our hearts dropped. This poor boy had already been through so much, and we were more than willing to provide for him the surgery that would create a miracle in giving him his sight back. Sadly, that won't come to be. BUT...the good news is, Richie is still just a happy-g0-lucky boy who has mastered his sight impairment like a champ. He gets around great, using his other senses to navigate his foster home, yard and any new territory he ventures out to on trips. He absolutely LOVES the water. Like REALLY LOVES the water. He would thrive in a lake home or with regular boaters or campers who frequent water destinations. If you have a pool, or even provide a doggy pool, he will jump right inside and frolic in complete joy. Richie also loves to play tag with other dogs who are game for romping & playing. He has shown to be great with dogs of all sizes, even the tinies. However, cats are much too tempting, giving determined chase with the seeming purpose of protecting his family from all things feline. Therefore, a cat-free home is a must. So that he can sniff and romp to his heart's content, we prefer a home with a fenced yard, unless you're able to keep him safe by never allowing him outside unsupervised. Richie truly is a treasure. He's got every ounce of Labrador bliss, finding the merriment in every adventure. A good nap is always welcome and if can be next to you, a canine friend, or laying at your feet, it is an extra bonus. We absolutely adore our Richie. He is one very special, deserving boy. Richie is a male Chocolate Labrador Retriever (appears to be an English Lab) weighs 80 lbs and was born approximately 3-7-13. He is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, given flea/tick preventative, dewormed, tested negative for heartworm disease & started on preventative. He is on daily eye drops (Neo-Poly-Dex) for his retinas to reduce inflammation and keep his eyes comfortable. He will need regular monitoring of his eye pressures, recommended at the eye vet clinic in 3 months. His adoption packet will include records from his visits to the veterinary ophthalmologist. Adoption fee is $300 to help offset the many expenses we have for vetting costs. We rely strictly on adoption fees and donations to continue to save the lives of orphaned & abandoned pets; 100% goes towards their care. If interested in adopting one of our available dogs or puppies, you must first complete an online adoption application at https://dollyslegacyanimalrescue.org/adopt/ You will be contacted by our adoption coordinator via email after your application has been reviewed & approved to schedule an appointment.
