My story

Pepper is a dog of remarkable character – a lovable, heroic soul, yet somewhat unaware of the sheer power he possesses. At 8 years old, this gentle giant is seeking not just a home, but a constant companion, someone who will guide him through the next chapters of his life with love, patience, and mentorship. His journey has been far from easy. Pepper’s early years were marked by uncertainty, as he was found as a stray in Oregon, underweight and physically unwell. A kind-hearted stranger took him in, but Pepper’s journey didn’t stop there. He passed through several shelters before eventually finding his way to our facility in 2021. Despite these difficult beginnings, Pepper has made remarkable strides, regaining his health and spirit. He has learned a great deal, developing new skills and coping mechanisms that have helped him express himself in healthier, more positive ways.In our time with him, we have come to truly understand the depth of Pepper’s affection and intelligence. He is a dog who responds deeply to those he trusts, and he thrives on companionship. His sharp mind is matched only by his handsomeness, and Pepper is always eager to learn. Whether it’s practicing new cues or mastering fresh tricks, this clever boy is motivated by a reward, particularly cheese and hash browns – treats that bring out his playful, devoted nature.Pepper is not a dog who prefers a sedentary life. He has energy to spare, and his ideal family would be one that can offer him a wealth of activities and adventures to satisfy both his instinctual needs and intellectual curiosity. Pepper is not content to simply lounge about; he wants to be part of the action, engaging with his humans, exploring, and playing. He delights in greeting birds as they flutter by, and, most of all, he cherishes his car rides. There is nothing that fills Pepper’s heart with more joy than sticking his head out the window, his whiskers trembling with the breeze, as he takes in the world at warp speed – seeing, smelling, and experiencing it all.To truly thrive, Pepper requires a home that mirrors his zest for life: a big, secure yard where he can bask in the morning sun, and a peaceful environment free from the chaos of other animals or children. Pepper’s ideal companion is someone with an active, outdoorsy lifestyle – someone who can offer him not only physical exercise but mental stimulation, so that he can remain happy, healthy, and fulfilled.Pepper is not just a dog; he is a hard-working, devoted companion with a heart brimming with joy and love to give. He longs for a person who can spare time to rub his belly, engage in games, take him on those thrilling car rides, and offer the training and exercise he craves. Pepper may have faced adversity, but his resilience is unmatched, and he is ready to offer everything he has to the right person – someone who will take him on the adventure of a lifetime.Could you be the one to give this extraordinary dog the love and opportunity he so deeply deserves? Pepper is waiting for you, and together, you’ll create memories that will last a lifetime. For more information about our adoptable dogs and/or to submit an adoption inquiry, please visit meridianrescue.org.
