This dog is being fostered in Dallas TX and must be adopted within the Dallas, North Central Texas or the southern Oklahoma area. NAME: Rascal GENDER: Male (Neutered) AGE: About 1 1/2 years old WEIGHT: About 5 – 6 pounds DOGS/CATS: Fine with other small dogs, Unknown with cats CHILDREN: Should be fine with older, mature children (10 and older) Meet adorable Rascal. This guy is so cute. The name fits him perfectly, but in a sweet way. Rascal is going to grab your heart. In early January, we were contacted by a Rescue Volunteer in Mabank TX (about 90 minutes from Dallas). She was working with a local back yard breeder who had a litter of Chihuahua puppies who were sick. The first puppy had just died of parvo (which is very contageous). The family had no money to take them to a vet and although they wanted to sell the puppies, this volunteer talked them into surrendering them to a rescue. Chihuahua Rescue & Transport stepped up to take the entire family – Mom, Dad and 4 puppies. Two of the puppies had parvo, but were hospitalized and they survived and are doing well. All together, the medical bills for this family has been over $6,000 but we are thrilled that we have saved all 6 of the family members! Rascal is the Daddy! He was as happy to leave this troubling environment as we were to save him! With all the chaos in his prior life, it is amazing how quickly Rascal settled into his foster home. He gets along well with both the small dogs and larger dogs in his foster home. He loves to play, and is thrilled to have other dogs to play with. He enjoys toys and is especially fond of tug-of-war games. Rascal loves having a back yard to explore. He is an active guy, and enjoys some naps throughout the day! Rascal adores his foster family. He will follow them from room to room so he doesn’t miss a moment of family time. Rascal loves to be picked up and held. He loves everyone in the family equally and will move from lap to lap during TV time to soak in everyone’s love. Rascal enjoys belly rubs and lots of affection. His foster family enjoys weekend “game nights” and Rascal can be found in the middle of the action sitting on a lap, helping his human teammate “win”. When meeting new people, Rascal will alert with a little barking, but settles down quickly when he knows it is safe, and will then ask for love from his new friends. We are working with Rascal on his potty training. He is learning very quickly, which is amazing considering the original family never taught him potty habits. He has learned to use the doggie door in his foster home and loves going in and out. This is definitely helping with his potty routine! During the day, Rascal’s foster family is able to let him have full access to the house with no issues. Rascal is making up for lost time, and enjoys sleeping with his humans in their bed at night. He snuggles under the covers and is the best little boy. Rascal would be happiest if his forever family would let him sleep in bed with them at night. We have begun taking Rascal on walks and he does well on a leash. Our vet estimates that Rascal is about 18 months old. Yes – he was the Daddy to the parvo puppy litter. This is an example of the life in a back yard breeder house – “babies having babies”. No more babies for him (as we have had him neutered as part of his vet work!). Rascal was about 5 pounds when we got him, but he is thin. Our vet says his ideal weight is about 6 pounds, so we are making sure he gets enough food. Rascal eats really fast, probably because he had to eat before the other dogs in the breeder household ate his food. But he is not food aggressive at all. Rascal has a tan coat with white highlights. He is super cute. You can definitely see him in the puppies! The ideal home for Rascal would be one with high to medium energy. He is young and ready to enjoy life. He would love to have a doggie buddy that he could play with. We think he may be fine as an only dog as long as his humans were around a lot to give him attention and love. He does bark a little when his family leaves to run errands, so we are not sure how well he will do in an apartment setting. And he LOVES the backyard. So he would really enjoy a home with a secure fence so he could relax and enjoy his life. Rascal is growing up with teenagers and adores them. So we know he does well with mature children, 10 and older. Rascal is being fostered in the Dallas, Texas area.
