If you are at least 21 years old and everyone in your household is on board with adopting a puppy, CALL 651-645-4370 between 7:00 am and 9:30 pm and we will return your call within 24 hours. If you elect to contact us via e-mail it may take several weeks for us to get back to you. Renters must provide proof that you are allowed to have a puppy. Please be prepared to provide a vet reference prior to adoption. "My what big ears you have." Not to worry. She will grow into them. After a week of one ear up and one ear down, both ears are now up and perky. Chippewa and her 4 siblings were surrendered by a family from the Standing Rock Reservation. It was an unplanned pregnancy and they wanted the pups to get good loving homes. We believe mommy and daddy were both Shep X and think they are about 16 weeks old. The puppies were well socialized before they came to PUP. Chippewa weighs a bit over 30# and we believe she will be a large breed dog, likely in the 70# range but that is best guess. The puppies are living together in a foster home and socializing with other puppies, teens and dogs. Chippewa is going outside to potty but is not yet fully housebroken but she is well on the way. She walks pretty well, like a puppy, on a leash. She is very steady and mature for for her age, but that doesn’t mean she won't get into trouble or your things. The early months are when puppy learns the social skills needed to be a skilled dog in dealing with other dogs and a good citizen in the human world. Adopters should be committed to getting puppy into lots of new and different human social situations, hearing vacuums, trucks, and rattling garbage cans, meeting people who are clapping, laughing, with hats, tools, bikes and skate boards. AND puppy needs many opportunities to meet and greet dogs of all shapes, sizes and dispositions. Just sharing a home with another dog is not as much doggie socializing as puppy needs. If good canine social skills are not learned and maintained during these early months, it will be very difficult to ever master them. Puppy play dates, trips to the pet store, puppy socialization classes and later, obedience classes are particularly important. If all this doggie time and involvement seems like a good idea, you are up for a puppy! As always, a tired dog is a good dog. Chippewa is well socialized but can be shy meeting new people and big unfamiliar dogs. She has been vet checked, wormed and is fully vaccinated including rabies. The $350 adoption fee (check or cash) includes the cost of her required spay in March provided it is done by one of the PUP vets. We do place puppies outside the metro area but a plan for the required spay must be in place. We do not ship. If you have any questions or would like to adopt Chippewa, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
