My story

APPLICATION: If this dog has stolen your heart, don't wait! Please apply online now to be considered as a potential adopter. NAME, GENDER, AGE WEIGHT & BREED NAME: Poppie GENDER: Female DOB: 02-20-21 approximate WEIGHT: 20-25 lbs approximate BREED: Dachshund Flat Coat Retriever LOCATION: Delhi, LA ADOPTION FEE: $450.00 (includes transport) ADOPTED ON 11-13-21: DOG BIO Another puppy, another case of cruelty. Sadly, it’s an everyday occurrence. What on earth would make someone think a helpless puppy is better off being abandoned to fend for itself than to be turned in at a shelter? Usually the outcome is tragic. They either die of starvation, get hit by a car, succumb to sicknesses, or any number of other horrible fates. It is totally avoidable, and that’s why it’s so heartbreaking. That is how we ended up with Poppie, and boy, are we glad to introduce her! This little girl is all LOVE, and can’t wait to share it with a family she can call all her own. She appears to be a Dachshund/ Flat Coat Retriever mix. Poppie is about 20 lbs., and based on her short legs, she will gain some weight, but probably won’t get much taller. She has a beautiful, sleek black coat and an innocent, little face that will melt your heart. She is around 6 months old and already spayed. She was abandoned at an old, closed down grocery store by herself. Luckily, a kindly neighbor noticed her and fed her daily until she gained Poppie’s trust. Unfortunately, the woman already had several of her own dogs and could not keep her. She was finally able to get close enough to her to pick her up and bring her to a rescue group. She has been nothing but a joy since, and is a healthy, happy girl, and ready for her journey to her new home. When you have made the decision to add a family member to your home it is important to research breeds so that everyone involved, including the new pup, is completely happy with the outcome. Some breeds are true family dogs, and the Flat Coat Retriever is no exception. These dogs are truly happy, self-assured, and eager to please. They mature slowly, and some owners say that they never grow up at all, retaining a puppyish taste for rambunctious mischief into old age. This can be either delightful or exasperating, depending on your tolerance! This highly energetic breed requires lots of outdoorsy exercise, so a house full of children or a family of avid hikers is ideal. Along with the wonderful personality of the Retriever, the famously long, low silhouette, ever-alert expression, and bold, vivacious personality of the Dachshund will make this combo a superstar of the canine kingdom for any family. Dachshunds aren't built for distance running, leaping, or strenuous swimming, but otherwise these tireless hounds are game for anything. Smart and vigilant, with a big-dog bark, they make fine watchdogs. Bred to be an independent hunter of dangerous prey, they can be brave to the point of rashness, and a bit stubborn, but their endearing nature and unique look has won millions of hearts the world over. Foster mom says that Poppie is the sweetest thing you could ever imagine. She loves to run and play, and doesn’t have a mean or aggressive bone in her body. All she wants to do is snuggle and make her humans happy. She is so loving, energetic, and absolutely enjoys her happy little life, especially if she can play with children or another dog! We always strongly suggest, however, that children and new dogs are NEVER left unsupervised until everyone is settled in with the change. You couldn’t go wrong adopting this sweet girl! Poppie will undoubtedly bring any family a never ending amount of love and fun. And she so deserves the same after her rough beginning. Consider opening your heart and home to this bundle of joy! THANK YOU Our rescue is only in the business of offering full disclosure to adopters, and expects and hopes to engage your questions and concerns fully. We owe it to the dogs we rescue and all the wonderful families/adopters who might consider welcoming our charges into their hearts and home. Our dogs are waiting for that ideal forever home where they will be cherished as deserving family members. It's sad these second chances are even necessary for these dogs, but we are committed to them and will devote the time and energy to their re-homing, and not just move them to save more dogs. We diligently and responsibly seek good matches, as we don't want to re-home the dog again. These animals have already endured more than they should have, and through no fault of their own. It behooves us to be honest and forthright, and we appreciate the same in return from applicants. It's that winning combination of reciprocal trust and respect that allows for successful placements to be made. Happy adopters translate to happy dogs, and that's our goal!
