My story

Apollo is being fostered in NY. BDRA will assist with transport to other states. ** Apollo needs a fenced yard. ** Here is what Apollo's foster mom has to say about Apollo: Update 10/19/2021 Apollo is doing excellent. He’s now about 8 months old and adjusting very well to life in a busy home. If I could use one word to describe right now it would “Goofy.” He loves running into bushes, flower beds, and tearing across the grass to test his speed and honestly just be a “kid” which he is at this age. He’s got no fear at all and won’t think twice to running full speed into our arms when we call him. He makes us laugh all the time. He’s becoming quite sneaky and mischievous too. He’s figured out how to nose his way around our baby gates to sneak a nap on the couch and is constantly getting into my sons toys to chew. He continues to be the gentlest dog we’ve ever encountered and leads with such trust and love that it’s hard to stay mad at him when he misbehaves. Oh and the best part (at least for me!) is that he doesn’t lick or shed. Who would’ve thought that?! No dietary issues at all and as regular as you can imagine. He’s ALSO stopped jumping in the house. He responds very well to positive reinforcement and clear commands like “NO”, and he’s getting much more predictable (ie: he knows to sit after going potty outside for his treat) Also completely potty trained. He sleeps beautifully through the night and can be left at home for a few hours during the daytime. Go Apollo!!! A quick update on Apollo! He’s doing super! All of his baby teeth have fallen out and Gus beautiful pearly whites have come in- video attached :) I also took a video of me petting him while he’s napping. It’s hard to capture but he is literally the best, well natured dog you’ll meet. He wouldn’t hurt a fly and has shown zero aggression (only play). He’s a joy to have around Bc he’s always happy and wants to just love and be in the mix. Ideally his next family has a fenced in yard, and think best if he’s the only dog OR there is an older dominant dog. As he’s a puppy, he does still play quite aggressively and doesn’t know his strength or size. When he jumps and goes after another dog with a friendly chomp, it’s best that the dog can put him in his place. We love him but are also excited to see how he does in a forever home! Apollo LOVES cuddling, snuggling and being around other people. There is nothing better than watching him BOUND towards you when you call his name because he is so happy to be included. We call Apollo a big goof because he has these super long legs and paws and loves to just hop around in the grass. He's never seen a dog run before so it's clear he's just not quite sure what to do, but he's just happy to be there. Apollo isn't great walking on a leash because he gets easily distracted by sounds and smells, but we're working on it! We have enough outdoor space where he can just run around all day and he absolutely loves it. Funny enough, Apollo also, like a typical hound, loves to just be alone outside. We have set up a little station for him under his favorite tree outside so he can take naps, dig holes, and just lounge in the shade. He is happiest outdoors listening to the birds chirp and smelling all the smells. Apollo sleeps away from the rest of us in a separate room, as he is still potty training through the night, but I'm happy to report that he can now make it through the night (8-9 hours) with no accidents as of about 2-3 days ago! Go Apollo! He gets along extremely well with my other dog, and she's great about pushing back on his puppy energy and giving him a run for his money. There will be no issues with him and another dog. As he is a puppy, he is very happy to also be chewing. Loves his rawhide sticks as well as puppy teething rings. He's surprisingly quite good about not eating shoes, my son's toys etc, but we also keep plenty of chewing items that he can enjoy around. Apollo has taken extremely well to the light training I've done and can sit and stay when you tell him to. The only thing I would be cognizant of is him with small children. As he's teething and still a puppy, he is mouthing quite a bit and still jumps. With big paws, sharp teeth, and sharp nails, it's a risk for children to be around him if he gets excited. It's not enough to strike fear in my son, but we do have to watch him. We easily just put a chew toy or stick in his mouth when he gets like this and he moves on. Apollo will be a wonderful family dog - he'll be wonderful with a big group of people and lots of activity. He's extremely loyal and is also not a flight risk at all. He will be such a wonderful gift to his next family. He's full of love, energy and brings a smile to anyone around him. BDRA has voted against the use of electrical fencing effective immediately.
