My story

DOB April 8, 2019. My name is Princess! You may be wondering what life is like for me as a blind cat. Thanks to my strong senses of smell and hearing, I am just like every other cat in many ways. I am a typical energetic, young cat who needs stimulation. I am social and love being pet and scratched. I would like to have another friendly cat in the home. I am still working on using my litter box and will need a patient teacher. Some days I do perfectly, and other days about 50/50. When I do have accidents they have always been right beside the litter box. Litter Attract has helped. I might bump into things at first, but I am still very brave and curious to explore. It only took me a few days to memorize the layout of a 3-storey home – I am a very quick learner! I don't jump up or down from high objects since I can't see where to land, but I like to climb as high as I can reach. My favourite game is to chase my toy along the ground so I can hear where it is. I especially love if the toy has catnip spray on it. I was a bit jumpy around unexpected noises/touch, until I got used to my surroundings. Once I get comfortable with my location I am good with being picked up. Blind cats are usually more talkative, and I like to use my voice to let you know where I am. I have a healthy appetite and like both wet or dry food (a bit of warm water on the dry food helps me smell where it is). I also like munching on cat grass. I was surrendered at a shelter in Toronto from a hoarding situation, so I would like another friendly cat in the home. You can tell I am very smart and resilient to have lived as a blind cat in that type of environment. I may have been an indoor/outdoor cat in the past, so I might like to go outside with you on a harness (once it is warm out again!). Note from Princess's foster family: Meet Princess! Weighing in at only 6 pounds, this little sweetheart was recently diagnosed with blindness (we think she can see some light/shadows). But Princess doesn't let that stop her from being confident, curious and friendly. The vet says she has adapted very well, and we have already see her learn so much in only a short time. We know that with the right family she has even more potential! Her blindness doesn't require any treatment. There are lots of great resources online for living with a blind cat. The only major risks that need to be prevented involve dangerous falls (down stairs, into a toilet, from heights, etc.). Princess was initially a bit jumpy around our small dog, but she adapted quickly and would be good with another gentle dog. We have not experienced how she reacts to children, but we assume she can adapt to anything.
