My story

Hope gave birth to 9 puppies when she was admitted into the shelter in 2016. She was still a young adult at that time. Her pups have been adopted one by one, leaving her in the shelter to find a way to survive. She remained there for the entire 4 years. Seeing how affectionate Hope is to people, the rescuer thinks it is time for Hope to find a forever home she deserves! Hope was used to the ways of life in a crowded shelter, so food and affection is a scarce resource for her. She will be happiest and more secure in a home where she is the only pet. Being a Formosan Mountain Dog cross, she is smart, stubborn, and loyal. She dislikes it when people touch her paws and would show teeth to warn. She has no separation anxiety and only barks to alert. Sometimes she gets too excited meeting people, so household with no children or older mature children are recommended. She Formosan Mountain Dog is the naturally occurring breed dog in Taiwan that was historically used as a hunting dog. They would hunt in packs along with their humans and coordinate a large mammal attack. In the drawings of the ancient islanders, it shows that this breed of hunting dogs are so fast that they could keep up with hunting deers. They are loyal and obedient making them excellent family pets, hunting companions, and much more! Unfortunately, due to the lack of conservation efforts from the Taiwanese government, the Formosan Mountain Dogs become subjects of abuse and neglect. They are often chained up all their lives, forced to guard live stocks, factories. They were also targets of the underground dog meat trade in Taiwan.

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Hope, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
