My story

Axel Breed: Shepherd mix Estimated Birthday: 12/12/2012 Weight: 45 pounds House & crate trained Are you looking for a champion snoozer, snuggler and sun bather? Meet Axel, a 12-13 year old Shepherd mix who checks all the boxes! This sweet senior weighs around 50 lbs and, while he does have some health issues–arthritis, a slipped disc, and is mostly blind and deaf–he still enjoys the simple pleasures of life. And in many ways, he is a low maintenance dog. He does fine on a leash and only needs short walks. He is crate trained and does not require a fenced yard. While we don’t know Axel’s history, we know that he does prefer spending his time with the ladies–both humans and doggy siblings (so no male dog playmates). With any potential adopter, it may take some time for him to warm up, but once does, he’ll fill your life with the love and comfort that only an old dog can provide. While Axel is house trained, he may have occasional bowel accidents (possibly caused by his back issues). And if there are other dogs in the house, they should be fed separately as Axel may sometimes growl–so solo dining it is! If you can provide a loving home for Axel to enjoy his golden years in comfort, apply today. - Knows his basic commands like 'sit' and 'shake' and walks lovely on leash. - Takes time to get used to strangers and needs an adopter who is willing to be patient with him as he learns to trust - You can always catch Axel with a toy in his mouth! He loves zippy paws toys and will carry his "babies" around in his mouth - Enjoys following you all around the house and just wants to be with you - Likes to snuggle on your lap or lay right up next to you! As long as part of him is touching you he is content! - Does well with female teenagers & female adults. - Does well in the crate but also can free roam in his foster's home - Due to Axel only liking female dogs, he would not be suitable for dog park/dog bark environments. - Has not been tested with cats Before emailing- please read: - Yes, this dog is available for adoption - The adoption fee for Axel is $265 - Apply at c2cnd.org - The adoption fee covers their age appropriate shots, microchip, deworming, spay/neuter, and any other medical expenses while in our care. - Local adopters only. Due to our thorough adoption process including home visits, we limit our adoptions to local families in the greater Charlotte area. - If you have any additional questions, email us at dogs@c2cnd.org and we will respond as soon as possible!

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Axel, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
