My story

Say hello to Billy, a 6-year-old Black Mouth Cur mix who’s equal parts gentle giant and cuddle king. Weighing in at a solid 74 pounds, Billy is basically a big ol’ teddy bear wrapped in fur and four paws! Billy found his way to us at HSSM on April 2nd, 2025, thanks to a kind-hearted gentleman who spotted him wandering around his Gulfport neighborhood. After spending the night in safe company, Billy was brought to us to find his forever home — and trust us, someone is about to get VERY lucky. This sweet boy gets along wonderfully with dogs of all shapes and sizes, and yes — he’s even cat-friendly! Billy truly shines around kids and would be a fantastic family dog. He’s calm, gentle, and incredibly affectionate. If you`re looking for a couch companion for weekend binge sessions or a buddy to join you on outdoor adventures, Billy is your guy. He’s always ready to explore, make new friends, and charm everyone he meets. No stranger stays a stranger for long around Billy! On leash? He’s a dream. Billy walks like a true gentleman — no pulling, no rushing, just a chill stroll with his favorite human. And the best part? Billy is fully vaccinated, neutered, and heartworm negative (WHOOP WHOOP!) — he’s healthy and ready to head home with you today.
