My story

Mooney is an interesting do - another one rescued from a hoarding situation and abandone. When we first brought him home he was very nervous and very scared of people, he just ran from one side of the yard to the other.. over and over... until he was tired and crashed. After a few days he calmed down and decided he wanted to run in and out with the other dogs when we let them, he gradually started warming up , he slowly started coming around and now will stay in the same room with people and lay close, he will take treats from your hand and if you toss them he will jump up and catch.. so someone spent some time working with him probably as a puppy.. he is very food motivated so he should be easy to train, he is still a little skittish around people..we think that trust will come slowly, he will need an experienced owner who has some time and patience to work with a very shy dog, every day he makes great strides , but he is not going to be your best friend on day one, it may take a few weeks or even months for him to trust again, he has a very sweet and curious personality, there is no aggression with other dogs or people, he loves to race around the yard with his buddies and play with his tail held high.. he would do better in a home with another dog to keep him company , he is still scared of a leash and does better on a harness, he loves toys and treats.. he looks like a bassett/terrier mix, he is approx 3 yrs and 35 lbs.. OUR RESCUE POLICY - It is our rescue policy for all our dogs that we require a home with no children under the age of 8, and experienced dog owners only. WE REQUIRE TWO YEARS OF VETS RECORDS ON YOUR CURRENT OR PAST DOG FOR OUR REVIEW. RECORDS MUST SHOW THE POTENTIAL ADOPTER AS THE OWNER The total adoption fee of between $550 (CT, NY, PA) and $675 depending on the quarantine laws of the adopter or foster's state (primarily Massachusetts) and includes the required interstate health certificate and transport , spay/neuter, shots including rabies, bordatella, parvo, distemper and canine influenza, and microchip. The total amount is payable to Shaggy Dog Rescue which is a 501c3. We also provide a coupon for a free wellness visit to the South Wilton Vet group if convenient for you. Some of our dogs are still in Texas in foster care. Our application is online at http://houstonshaggydogrescue.org/application-process/

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Mooney, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
