My story

This is a courtesy posting for a rescue in TX. We know this person personally, she also drives for one of the USDA Professional Dog Rescue Transporters that we use for transport. Likely could be trained to be with cats but it will be eaiser w/o them. These words are from the people who saved him in TX. They would bring him up if pre adopted on their next trip up. "Hanz is a great great dog. Chris, pulled him in August from the Hays County Animal Shelter. He was on the euthanasia list. His owner surrendered him, because they could not handle him. They lived in a one bedroom apartment with no backyard and he was in a kennel most of the day, getting aggressive. Who wouldn't?!!! We had his DNA testing done. He is 67% Belgium Malinois and the other is Dutch Shepherd with a bit of German Shepherd. He is not a dog for the faint hearted. One needs to be a good alpha leader. We ha Chris, pulled him in August and he has been training him with professional trainers and on his own hoping to shape him into a search and rescue dog. Unfortunately, he does not have what it takes for search and rescue, so my husband wants to find him a wonderful new home where he can shine and get more attention (we have 10 dogs currently). David Kroyer, a well known trainer did his aptitude eval for SAR and found he lacked the genetics. Chris didn’t want to give up on him just yet, so he enlisted the consultation of Robert Cabral, another local SAR trainer. He gave me some pointers, but now after an additional month of working on it he is just not going to cut it. He will work for about 10 minutes then he just goes flat. A lot of that could be age, I believe as does my vet that he is +/- 1 YO. He is HW-, fully vaccinated, neutered, and on all preventatives (ProHeart for HW and Nexgard for fleas/ticks). He is stunning, smart and a lot of fun. He is E-collar trained as well as Pinch collar on a lead. He pulls on a flat collar but he gives up after a few corrections. He Barks and wants to chase my “ranch hand’ on the gator during livestock feeding, but we are sure it is not sure aggression, so much as it is curiosity. He also barks and pulls towards cars. Chris is going to keep taking him places and try to socialize him more, while we look for a new home for him. He is dog friendly though a playful teenager and my older GSD often corrects him to teach him some manners. She is 80 lbs and not afraid to say knock it off. He is good around my grandchildren, but I would suggest he go to a family with children 10 years and up. We don’t think he is cat friendly, though I have a bunch of them he looks at through the glass. He hasn’t acted aggressive but since I have been using a flirt pole with him I won’t take a chance. He is Crate and Kennel trained, Back yard savvy, I live on Deer fenced 5 acres and he hangs out supervised in a yard with a 36”-48” fence that he could obviously jump if he wanted. He has not to date, His unsupervised play areas though are 20 x 50” 6 foot fence. He does come with some challenges; He hates riding in the car. Currently Chris has a K-9 Insert in my Truck he rides in an Impact Crate inside the K9 Insert in the back seat and goes absolutely nuts every time. When I stop the vehicle, he is fine, He gets out Happy and then jumps back in just as happy and it all starts over again. We have invested about $5-6k dollars in him for training, etc., and it obviously is not about the money so much as we want to make sure that his next home is his last great loving forever home. SHANYE'S FOSTERS is a group of foster parents in the Olympia/Tumwater area. We foster dogs for rescues to assist them in adopting/rehoming of dogs by listing on this site. All adoption fees go towards rescuing more dogs in need. No one receives a salary. Shayne's Fosters is not responsible for any experience you have with any dog you might see posted on this site. They are the property of the sponsoring rescue who will supply all medical supporting records which is given with each dog when adopted. Our adoption fees cover all medical costs to make sure the pups are appropriately vaccinated, microchipped, dewormed, and spayed/ neutered. It also covers the cost of transportation from Texas and the necessary health certificate documentation. The fees also include a negative heart-worm test for any dogs over 6 months. Some dogs/pups have additional medical, including but not limited to FHO, ACL, hernias, dental, and a myriad of other vetting. If the adoption fees seem high (which never cover the true cost of rescue), we recommend fostering for a good rescue. Fostering ensures you incur no vet bills and no boarding fees. We are always in need of good fosters. We are all volunteers who appreciate a good dog and feel they all need a second chance at a good life. Thank you for choosing to adopt a rescue pup/dog.
