Sheamus could be that dream come true guy for active retirees who love spending their time with a cottony-soft and very smart companion. We feel that Sheamus would also do well with a younger family with dog-crazy older kids who enjoy the fun and companionship that a sweet dog brings to a family. We'd like only older children in Sheamus's family.. not because he doesn't enjoy young kids, but because we want to make certain he's always handled gently and with respect. Sheamus, at just about 38 lbs (the perfect size to accompany his family everywhere a very sweet and well-behaved dog is welcome) and 18 months old is the perfect age..old enough to be beyond babyish behaviors and young enough to have many, many active and healthy years ahead. Sheamus's new family must have the motivation, energy and open heart for a young rescue dog. He will require behavioral guidance and tons of love to nurture a positive attitude about the world. In return Sheamus will be a loyal and loving best friend and the greatest companion ever. When this adorable guy falls in love, he falls hard. Sheamus gives 100% of himself to his relationships with both his people and his canine companions. Sheamus may initially be a bit uncertain or frightened from his time spent at a dismal shelter...but give him just a second (a belly rub and yummy treats are helpful) and he is happy to come closer for a welcome hug. Before you know it, Sheamus is gently sitting at your side to give and receive love. The Texas rescuers recognized that Sheamus is a special dog and knew that there was a home out there that would fall in love with this wonderful guy. Sheamus's Houston foster mom had the following to say about Sheamus: Sheamus is a super-happy and very friendly pup (that I've fallen in love with). He's very dog friendly (which is wonderful on our walks) with medium energy. Sheamus walks remarkably well on a loose leash with very good manners. He does have a bit of a wandering tendency and tries to escape for the sport of it. I know he's not really trying to run away from home because when he gets out, he just hangs out on the porch. I wouldn’t go so far as to say Sheamus is house trained but he has had zero accidents. I'm keeping an eagle eye on him because he's in training. I let him out often and reward him with delicious treats whenever he's successful. Sheamus behaves perfectly in his crate and sleeps all night long. If he was staying in my home, I would feel that he's ready to snuggle in bed with me all night. I work just a couple of hours a day outside of the home...Sheamus is perfect in his crate and very happy with a kong frozen with toddler baby food. Sheamus came to me with itchy and awful skin issues derived from humid weather conditions and severe insect bites. His vet notes confirm that he had a skin scrape (negative), an iver-injection, Cephalexan meds and Capstar. I’m also bathing him every 3 days with medicated shampoo and applying oils that are so soothing and really helpful. I'm very optimistic that with all the care/meds, that Sheamus's coat will be virtually healed by the time of his arrival in Colorado. Once his skin is completely healthy and his fur has filled in properly, I think he will look exactly like Sandy, the shaggy pup from the movie Annie. Sheamus will do well with a family who's invested in spending time with their pup. He's so pleasant and portable that he can be a part of any adventure....it can be a neighborhood walk, a visit with friends, a car ride or just an afternoon spending time together plopped down on the couch - all of this would speak to Sheamus's great temperament. Farfel's isn't open to a home where everyone spends their days working full-time outside of the home. Retirees or a younger family that works at home or part-time would be preferred to provide Sheamus with the time and attention that a sensitive, family-loving dog yearns for. Since Sheamus is just a young guy, he's a blank slate just waiting for a kind and patient human to show him the way. He has all the potential in the world to be an awesome adult companion - Sheamus will form firm bonds with his family (as well as other dogs and humans) and learn positive socialization skills through positive reinforcement group Obedience Classes. This is a 6-8 week regimen of 1-hour training classes that will make a profound difference in a dog's behavior and their relationship with their people. It does take time and commitment...yet pays off a thousand times over when you have a dog that can accompany you out in the world with excellent behavior. We feel very strongly that every dog deserves the opportunity for formal, positive reinforcement training classes. We therefore aren't willing to adopt Sheamus out to a home that doesn't choose to offer him this opportunity. Farfel's is happy to provide a list of approved positive reinforcement/force-free trainers in your area. Sheamus is arriving on transport in Boulder on Friday 8/9/19. Applications are currently being accepted for this very loving, sweet and loyal best friend. An application can be found at http://farfels.com/farfels-rescue/adoption-form/. If interested, please fill out completely and submit. PLEASE NOTE: If you're truly interested in adopting Sheamus, please be sure to submit our adoption application. It's the only initial tool that we have to determine a great match for this very deserving dog. We're sorry, but in most circumstances, we're unable to get back to those that don't submit an adoption application. Thanks so much for choosing rescue.
If you have any questions or would like to adopt Sheamus-ADOPTION PENDING, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
