We at PDR believe in the benefits of post-adoption training for our dogs and their families. This allows for continued socialization, learning and helps to create a well-mannered and balanced dog. Post-adoption training is a requirement in our adoption process. For more information on our process and requirements, visit our website at https://pounddog.ca/adoption-info/. Everyone meet Robin! She is a 1.5 year old approx. 20kg Norwegian Lundehund x Australian Shepherd with the warmest brown eyes you’ve ever seen. First thing you will notice is her absolutely stunning brindle coat that she gets comments on it everywhere we go and she LOVES the attention. Then if you look really closely you will notice that she has a special characteristic unlike any other, she has SIX toes on each back paw. Yup, double dewclaws which are a characteristic of the Lundehund. Her ears normally stand upright too but when she is being silly one will flop over, it’s the cutest thing ever. Robin was a stray at a rural animal control facility and not claimed by her owner. How her previous owner didn’t come for her is beyond comprehension, she is the sweetest thing ever. It’s for the best though because Robin deserves a family who is as devoted to her and she will be to them. She needs to belong in a home where she will not be allowed to roam free and get lost, where she can be confident in the fact that she is home forever and will never be lost or abandoned again. Robin would do well in pretty much any home situation. She is very friendly and quiet indoors, but she will alert you when someone is at the front door. Robin would do best in a house with a secure fenced yard where she can run around and expel her energy; however the intelligent Lundehund is good at escaping, so a secure fence is crucial. Robin is a small bundle of energy and enjoys all forms of exercise offered her, especially fetch! She loves long walks and hikes, especially somewhere that offers different terrain as she loves to climb rocks like the escarpment trails. She also loves walks simply around the neighborhood and meeting new people, dogs, squirrels, cats… she loves them all! What Robin loves most is being active and playing! Robin can be bouncy around the house without the proper amount of exercise, so it is important that she receives enough playtime and walks along with some mental stimulation with training so she can enjoy pack snuggles on the couch at the end of the day! She is not a lazy dog by any means but once she is all tuckered out she loves belly rubs and snuggles on the couch. She loves to stash toys and bones under blankets as if she is preparing for winter…it is a characteristic of the Norwegian breed and super cute! She also enjoys being brushed and requires regular brushing to keep her coat looking sharp. Robin has been such a good girl during her stay with us and had not one accident in the house! She is completely housebroken and crate trained, she totally loves her crate. If you leave the crate door open, she will walk right in no questions asked at bedtime and falls right asleep. She has been such an easy dog to foster and an even easier dog to love. She is such a sweetheart and will gently paw at you when you stop petting her as if to tell you not to stop because it’s just so good! Robin is amazing with other dogs and has settled in nicely with her foster dog brother, even though he is double the size of her! Robin is very confident now and is the one that initiates playtime. We think that she would do best in a home with another friendly, well behaved dog, but that is not a necessity for her. Robin would do well being the only dog too and getting all of the attention to herself! She is also really good with her cat foster brother and is good at ignoring him when he runs around the house jumping on and off furniture. Sometimes she needs a gentle reminder that she is not allowed to chase him when they are in the same room together, it is a work in progress. Robin is not being fostered in a home with children, but we do believe that with her quiet, loving nature, she would do fine with older children (over 10yrs of age). Robin is a soft dog, with a gentle nature and we believe that gregarious, loud and rowdy children would be a bit too much for little Robin. Robin can be shy and she will not enjoy a loud or busy home so if you have lots of visitors in and out, or have children that run through the home she won’t be happy. She would love the attention she would receive from quieter kids who would love to pet her and play nicely in the yard. Robin came to our home with a perfect sit and shake paw, but we are attending obedience classes where she is being taught to sit, down, stay and basic recall commands. Robin is a very smart girl and is picking up very quickly with lots of praise and treats! She loves to work and show off her skills. Robin’s new family will need to commit to continuing her obedience training to bring out the very best in this extremely smart and loyal breed. Robin needs someone who is going to keep up with her, give her loads of love and training. She needs people who are already very active and outdoorsy. This is a high energy dog and simple walks around the neighbourhood are not going to suffice. She needs to run and play and get her herding breed energy needs met. She needs to be never abandoned again and needs to know that the next home she goes to will be the one she spends the rest of her life in. Robin will love you hard and want to play hard every day. She has such a big heart that she truly needs a pack to call her own forever. Robin will make you proud as she excels through training and learns new things. If you are looking for a unique, loyal, playful and love of a dog then Robin is the one for you!
