My story

Meet Beautiful and Mellow Cello Cello, neutered male, 2.5 years, 52 Lbs. Hi, I’m Cello. My daddy is a beautiful Husky, and my mommy is a mixed stray. We were born in a rural area full of danger and unfriendly humans. To protect us, my inexperienced mommy had to nurse seven of us while hiding out in various places. Those were the most difficult months in my life. During all the hiding and wandering, a very nice person never gave up on us. She amazingly followed our trace until we were rescued one by one over 3 months. When my last sibling was rescued, my native mom was satisfied. She left without a trace. No matter how much the rescuer tried to find her, she was gone. Please let me tell you more about me. I was born with a shy but very gentle and sweet nature. In my puppyhood, my mom had to protect all of us by hiding from unfriendly humans, so we learned to keep our distance from any human contact. It was not easy for a puppy like me. Even now, I’m very cautious when strangers approach me. With my foster mom’s encouragement, I have gradually gained more confidence and walk well in big parks or on busy streets. But I still feel insecure if there are too many people coming toward me or suddenly appearing behind me. To help me overcome my fear, my experienced foster mom always walks me a little faster to pass through the crowd. It does help a lot. And if there are strangers or young children wanting to pet me, that is a big challenge for me. So, I choose to stay down immediately. Luckily, most people are very friendly to me. Some of them make friends with me by handing me delicious treats. That really makes me happy! I notice I was born with a special look. From time to time, many people would be curious of my breed, and my foster mom would just tell them that I’m “a smooth Husky.” That makes people smile and respect me more. I like that. I like doggie friends. Normally I will observe first to make sure the dogs are friendly. I enjoy running free and playing with friendly dogs but keep away from the alpha dogs. However, I’m a little scared of smaller dogs if they keep coming after me. If that happens, I simply walk away peacefully. If a dog comes near my bowl when I’m eating, I will just leave the bowl to avoid fighting. Still, I wish the dog could learn some manners and allow me finish my meal. With my mellow temperament, I stay very calm and quiet at home. Unless there is a sudden strange noise at the door, I rarely bark. I’m a very good boy. It took me about 2-3 weeks to settle in my new place. After I bond to the family, I am a cuddly sweet boy who responds when called. I’m a very well-behaved doggie, too. I sit and stay calmly until foster mom says it is okay to eat. I follow commands outdoors and walk very well on leash. Nevertheless, I have difficulty with staying for a long time because there are too many external distractions outdoors that bother me. When I get scared, my foster mommy will ask me to sit tied and pet me nicely to face the fear. I understand it’s not easy to give a patient and shy dog an experienced loving home. But as my foster mommy said, a mellow doggie like me is a precious gift from God. I only have to be a good boy while waiting for my destined family to come to me. And now here I am. I wish I could be as lucky as my brother Eason in finding my own sweet home soon. Please visit www.ahan.org to view more of “Cello’s” videos, and click “APPLY” to fill out the online application.
