Darcy is a 65 lb young adult terrier mix with a beautiful unique look. She was pulled from Cleveland Animal Control in July. She is happy and exuberant at home and ALWAYS in a good mood, but she is still working to gain confidence in public. She is extremely smart and willing and only wants to please her people. She comes running with a smile and a butt wiggle every time she is called. With only 3 formal obedience sessions under her belt, she heels so well that she gets mistaken for a service dog. She wears a special vest while in public that gives her a little space. It allows her foster family to control her interactions to ensure they will all be slow and positive. She is quickly learning, with the help of kind strangers and yummy treats, that she can trust humans. She won’t need the vest forever, but for now, it allows her to go just about anywhere except for a dog park. Sometimes she doesn’t react well to a strange dog in her face while on leash. However, she lives in her foster home with 3 other dogs and a cat, and she adores every one of them. She seems to thrive as part of a pack and she copies their confidence. She can be trusted unconditionally with all of them, even with toys scattered around the room. She has a special bond with former Slumdog Darnell, who is similar age and size (~3 years old, 70 lbs). They love to play rough and they go everywhere together. She also loves her two smaller foster dog brothers, but shows it with an affectionate lick to the muzzle at every opportunity, rather than the rough play. Even though she moves a bit like a bulldozer, she is very aware and respectful of how much smaller they are. She desperately wants to be friends with the cat, and even though she gets a hateful whack on the nose almost every interaction, she doesn’t give up. Darcy is looking for her forever home! She would love a fenced in yard, at least one other dog, and a family who understands her insecurities and is willing to help her work through them.
