My story

Hi I’m Slate! I am a distinguished gentleman that goes with the flow once I warm up to you. I need a few days to sniff out my new digs and family, but once I know you're all about the hugs and kisses I am all in. I am gentle with small children and I love to romp outside with other dogs at my foster home. When I get excited I do start to gently nip but I am easily redirected to a toy or the word stop works too. I am a hound afterall, so I follow ALL the interesting smells relentlessly, so a fenced in yard is a must. When I walk with my foster siblings, I am a champ on the leash, but on solo walks I get a little distracted and slightly pull. I came to my foster family super skinny, but I have a great appetite and quickly adding on weight. I really like food and sometimes get carried away, so feeding me separately from my foster siblings has been working really well. My foster mom thinks I was an exclusively outside dog in my past life and although I LOVE being inside I am still learning proper etiquette. I sleep through the night in my bed and am working hard on getting my routine synced up with my family. I am mostly potty trained but occasionally have an accident when I forget to tell my family to let me outside. Please plan to have lots of toys for me to find, so that I can get to work and distribute them evenly throughout the house. My favorite game is tug of war, and I think I would really like to play fetch if you help me learn the game. Even though I have been with my foster family for a short time, I use my adorable howl to alert them of potential dangers, like a falling leaf. Strangers that come inside are obviously not dangerous and just need to pass my sniff test because I'm a hound and nosy. Not going to lie, you will immediately fall in love with my gentle and quirky spirit.
