Alberto ACCT-A-173725 is a 4-year-old male who was brought in by animal protection officers on 9/9. Behavioral notes: Per staff 9/10: "I went to meet Alberto today and see how he's settling in. When I approached him in his kennel, he appeared fearful with tense, low posture, ears back, and trembling. When I opened the kennel door and called to him softly, he came forward and sniffed my leash and hand, but then would run to the middle of his kennel. We repeated this a few times, but once I closed the kennel guillotine I was able to loop him with my leash the next time he came forward, and he then exited the kennel with no issues. He walked next to me with loose leash through the kennels and outside, with some zigzagging around due to fear, but no pulling at all. Per staff 9/10: "Alberto was a big sweet softie for his medical exam, I kept the exam brief as he was very nervous, but he allowed me to pet him a little. He likes one of the behavior team, and she helped with his intake so he would feel more secure. Alberto seems to be unaccustomed to gentle, positive interaction, as he was very confused by it. He liked when his favorite person gave him belly rubs, and would learn against her for support. Despite being nervous, he allowed me to give his vaccines without restraint, just distraction from his handler and squeeze cheese. 9/10 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION: Alberto KNOWN HISTORY: Stray KENNEL PRESENTATION: Alberto was in the kennel very scared with wide eyes. He was laying down with a tense body and then tried to get up but continued staring at the handler in a half up/half lying down position until he slowly tried to move away. The handler lowered the divider and he sat upright facing the wall and the handler had to lasso him and used some leash pressure to fully get him out of kennel. LEASH SKILLS: Pull minimally HANDLING: Alberto came outside for his eval with very wide scared eyes, paw lifting and a tense, low and nervous body language. He was very scared and stressed and tries to move away from all touch and direction from the handler for the first 10 minutes. He tolerated some touch but immediately tried to retreat and gave some hard eye contact and lip licks. He prefers to be left alone without being touched or looked at. Any sense of a handler going near him, he freaks out - becoming tense and stiff. He flinches with any handling, head whipping, paw lifting, lip licking, and hard eye contact. He seems to want to solicit for comfort but is too nervous and cautious of the handlers. After some time, he allowed the handler with the leash to pet him very softly on his head and back. We then went into the office and Alberto really opened up with his main handler allowing more handling and leaning in while petting him. He remained very nervous but was tolerant and did fabulous for his vaccines as well. PLAY Too scared TOYS: Too scared COLOR LEVEL & ANY RECOMMENDATIONS: Experienced Blues Per APO 9/10: "Dog was also wearing a shock-collar that was still active/switched on with a fully charged battery. Per APO 9/9: "Dog appears initially defense, low growling tense throughout entire situation and did not allow APO to leash. Dog was abandoned with food bowl and harness on the ground caller stated they were walking when they found the dog tied up to the tree. Medical notes: Per an intake exam on 9/10: "Coat & Skin appear to have black residue, similar to dust/dirt from car tires. Sweet dude, very scared, unsure of himself, trying his best to be a Good Boy, let me vaccinate without needing to restrain. Could benefit from some courage and love.
