** $350 in pledges for the rescue that pulls ** EXTENDED Spot ACCT-A-172450 is currently considered urgent and at risk of euthanasia due to length of stay and lack of space for incoming dogs. Spot must have confirmed placement with an ADOPTER or RESCUE PARTNER by SUNDAY, September 22ND at 10 A.M. Should Spot's medical or behavioral status change, his urgency and timeline for placement may also change. Due to being significantly overcapacity with animals and higher than usual intake, extensions are unlikely to be granted. If you are interested in an animal please contact ACCT Philly immediately. Due to limited space, timestamps may also be proceeded with early so it is imperative to let us know if you are considering adopting or tagging an animal. Meet Spot, a handsome 6 year old large mixed breed that has the cutest neck wrinkles ever! Spot came in as a stray after being abandoned in his previous owner's yard on 8/24/24. His finder noted that he was shy and scared. In his time being here he has made great friends with staff and volunteers! Upon medical examination Spot was found to need 2-3 x weekly medicated bathes to achieve full resolution of skin issues. Spot would really benefit from a home as he is very nervous here in the kennels. Due to Spot's nervousness in new situations he would do best in a home aged 12+. 9/15 per volunteer: Super loose and wiggly for leashing, very easy to leash on the first try. He pulled on the way out quite a bit so would be best with a harness, but is easy to direct on leash. Outside he loved romping around in the play yard and was pretty high energy! He LOVED squeaky toys and was super playful, running around with them in his mouth and throwing them and fetching them for himself. 9/2 per volunteer: When I first walked up to Spot's kennel door, he picked his head up to look at me, but he didn't seem interested in moving from his comfortable position. Once he saw my leash, he immediately picked himself up and walked up to the door. He stood patiently at the door and let me leash him. Spot is all business for the first few minutes of our walk. This housetrained boy went to the bathroom a number of times once we stepped out of the building. Spot is focused on sniffing particular areas and will spend time thoroughly inspecting. When he finally pooped, Spot became wiggly for a few seconds and looked up to proudly smile at me. Spot mostly walked close to me, but if his nose caught a scent he needed to explore, he would pull in that direction. Spot is a calm gentleman. He didn't always seek my attention, but when he did, he really enjoyed butt scratches. I had no problem returning Spot to his kennel. 9/2 per staff: While getting PCRs Spot came into the exam room with whale eyes, tail tucked and tense body language. When approached, backed away and urinated a few times from being nervous. behavior escalated while attempting PCR he snapped once at the swab, allowed us to muzzle him but still showed bad body language and continued to growl the whole time 8/27 per staff: Spot got out for some one on one time today! He was standing by the door hanging his head low, but looked up with soft eyes when I called him. He stood by the door and waited patiently to be leashed. He came right out once secured and did not pull too much. Once in the office with me he got all his potties out, and sniffed around the room curiously. He would allow some passing pets and even leaned against me for a minute. He was mostly pretty aloof and avoidant during pets for the first few minutes, but his skin is so irritated I can't blame him. With time he would solicit and even pushed his head under my hand! Spot let me get a big eye boogie out of his eye without any issue as well. He began to stay closer to me and lean against me more and more. When I would stop petting him to type, he would push his head under my arm to solicit. Spot just needed a few minutes to warm up, and afterward he was attached to me at the hip! Spot is an affectionate, cuddly boy who just wanted to be close. He gave me no issues returning and overall was pleasure to have out and hang out with! 8/26 per staff: Spot was on the back side of his kennel curled up with semi soft eyes. The handler called him over and he got up and began paw lifting but not coming forward. She lowered divider, went to back side, but he retreated to the corner and lowered his head. The handler was able to reach in with leash and Spot allowed it but would attempt to duck the leash. Once secured he came out very slowly. Spot is very curious and tolerant of pets, he remained neutral and was unsure at first with touch. He was nervous in the yard and mostly stayed to one spot, lacking confidence to explore. He is not handler focused and sniffed around, avoiding treats and play. Will try again at another date and see if he warms up.
