Honey, formerly known as Oklahoma, is a gentle, shy soul who was found as a stray by animal protection officers on August 20th. While she may start off a bit timid, with a little patience and a soft approach, she quickly warms up and reveals her affectionate side. Per Foster: I picked up Honey, formerly known as Oklahoma on Sunday Sept 15th. She is the sweetest girl. She loves to hug (not jump) whenever she is uncertain or a little nervous. She walks very nicely on leash and has been kind when passing unfamiliar people and animals. She did great getting a bath and tolerates handling: no sensitivity or fear in handling. She even let us cut her nails without a fuss! I'm VERY impressed with her ability to open up once she gains trust! She loves playing with squeaky toys and chewing on bully sticks. She is still in her decompression period but she's been doing well sleeping in her crate at night with the crate door open and being in a separate space away from me during the day while I work from home. She is completely potty trained/ housebroken. Not one single accident since being in a whole new environment! She's a little on the shy side so needs a slow and steady approach. I would assess her as low to medium energy with appropriate zoomies when she is really happy. She also apparently loved running 2 miles with the running team. She's easy adapt! She has not yet interacted with my own dogs freely but she's seen them/ heard them through the baby gate and doesn't care much about them. I saw her in the shelter and she did great meeting Emmy: very tolerant! From the minute I leashed her up she was ready to go! We ran a few miles together and also spent some time sitting in the shade together sharing affection. She loves pets and treats and was a dream on her leash! Anyone would be lucky to welcome this sweet potato into their lives! Per volunteer 8/27: This gal may start off a bit shy, but with a gentle approach, she quickly blossoms into a sweet and affectionate friend. Give her a moment to explore, and you'll soon see her come out of her shell! With a little patience, Oklahoma will approach you with soft eyes and a wagging tail, ready for some gentle pets. She might even lean in, kicking her leg like she's got an itch that just won't quit-it's her adorable way of asking for more love! While she's not too interested in treats right now, she's sure to warm up to them once she feels comfortable in her new home. Per staff 8/23: I had Oklahoma for some time outside today. She loves walking and exploring. She takes a little while to warm up, but is happy to do her own thing. Oklahoma can be strong on her leash when she wants to get somewhere new to smell then relaxes as she takes everything in. She walked along with a male dog and did well. She choose to approach a female dog on the other side of the fence to say hi. Per staff 8/21: KENNEL PRESENTATION: Oklahoma was lying on her bed when I approached with wide nervous eyes. She remained lying on her bed as I opened the kennel and sniffed the leash. She allowed me to place it over her head easily without issue and once secured she exited easily. No issues returning. LEASH SKILLS: Pulled minimally . HANDLING: When we got to the yard Oklahoma was nervous with a tucked tail and wide soft eyes. I knelt down and gave her some space. She explored the yard and then approached me from behind sniffing me with soft eyes. She allowed me to pet her head and sides, but did flinch at first. She needs a gentle approach and warmed up quickly when going at her pace. She leaned in as I pet her sides and would start to kick her leg, seeming itchy. She had no interest in treats while outside. PLAY:No interest TOYS: No interest Per staff 8/20: dog appears scared and wary of strangers. was able to place in truck without muzzle. Medical Notes: URI 8/23: This dog has been observed to have shelter acquired upper respiratory infection (URI), or a "doggy cold". They have been started on medication, and will be monitored for resolution of the respiratory infection.
