My foster writes: Nyla is a lovable apartment-sized baby looking for a peaceful home to call her own. Nyla is a very affectionate and cuddly girl, always approaching for belly rubs and cheek squishes. Once she's comfortable with you, she will follow you from room to room hoping for some attention (or a snack). However, when left alone she will just lounge around until you come home. She is very polite and, although she loves to sit next to people on the couch, will very obediently return to the floor when directed. She knows "sit" and "come here." She can be a little scared of new people, but with a quick introduction in a neutral location, she will welcome any stranger into her home. We recommend she go to a home in a quieter neighborhood because, at times, loud streets or busy sidewalks can be a bit much for her. However, since leaving the shelter, Nyla has built up her confidence every day and blossomed into an affectionate companion. Whoever adopts Nyla is sure to get a cuddly and adorable new best friend.Behavior Assessment:During her assessment on April 2, 2024, Nyla displayed various behaviors. She showed no strength or pulling while on leash and exhibited no reactivity to humans or other dogs. However, she walked with a low body posture and was fearful in new environments.Interactions:Nyla is a bit timid and fearful, especially in unfamiliar surroundings. She warms up slowly with treats and prefers to explore with a low body and tail. While she tolerates soft and exuberant handling, she may display signs of discomfort such as a tucked tail and lip licking.Energy Level and Recommendations:As we have no history on Nyla's behavior in a home environment, it's essential to provide her with daily mental and physical activity to keep her engaged and exercised. Long-lasting chews, food puzzles, and interactive games can help redirect her energy positively.Behavior Determination:Nyla has been assessed as a Level 3 dog, indicating her fearfulness during her time in our care. Therefore, we recommend that she goes to an adult-only home where she can feel safe and supported.Potential Challenges:Fearfulness is the primary challenge for Nyla, and she may benefit from a quiet space to decompress and initiate interactions at her own pace. Providing her with a calm and patient environment will help her adjust and build confidence over time.Despite her initial timidity, Nyla has the potential to become a loving companion in the right environment. With understanding and patience, she will surely blossom and form a strong bond with her new family.A volunteer writes: NYLA. While I think she is gorgeous with her shiny auburn coat and soulful expressive eyes, this is the dog who is often overlooked in the shelter. Medium sized, medium age, not a tiny puppy anymore... by skipping a dog like Nyla, folks miss out on the fabulous traits of a dog who is past the crazy-puppy-energy phase, and who wants nothing more than to just Primary Color: Brown Secondary Color: White Weight: 54 Age: 2yrs 5mths 3wks
If you have any questions or would like to adopt Nyla, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
