Please contact Lowell Nelson (lowelln@luckydoganimalrescue.org) for more information about this pet.sweet shy girl seeking love and safety! ADINA NEEDS A FOSTER OR FOREVER HOME!!! Come meet Adina and other great adoptable dogs this Sunday (Nov. 10) from 12-3 pm at the Petsmart in Rockville (5154 Nicholson Ln, Kensington, MD 20895)! Name: Adina Best Guess for Breed: Lab/Retriever mix Best Guess for Age: 2 years as of March 2024 SEX: Female Approximate Weight: 45 lbs Gets Along With: Adina does well with other dogs! We haven't seen her with cats but she can be tested. Currently Living at: DC area boarding facility (She would love a foster to stay with until she finds her forever home!) Special adoption considerations: Adina is heartworm positive, but this Lucky Dog got extra lucky! This pup is part of a groundbreaking study we are conducting at our South Carolina Rescue Campus that has the potential to change the way shelters across the United States treat heartworm positive dogs. All dogs in the study are placed at random in either the 2 shot or 3 shot protocol with strictly monitored protocols in place. Four weeks following their final injection, the pups are eligible to transport to the DC area for placement in foster or adoptive care. After treatment concludes, we work with adopters to arrange a free follow up heartworm test after 6 months, followed by a second test at 9 months. We are happy to discuss this treatment and which phase of the study this Lucky Dog is in right now! Just email the adoption coordinator - the address is at lower left! Adina is Looking For: Her forever home! This sweet shy girl landed in the shelter through no fault of her own. She's closed that chapter and is eagerly looking ahead to her next - the one where she once again has her own humans and is under her own roof. Adina has so much love and affection to offer - so much desire to be a loyal companion. What do you say? Will she be yours? What My Foster Says About Me: Adina is a sweetheart! She loves to cuddle and be close to her people. She has a lot of energy, so we've been going on long walks and I've provided her with toys to see what she gravitates to. She loves tennis balls and furry/fluffy toys! She loves to play with other dogs in the dog run. She seems to want to play most at night; it takes a minute to get her to wind down but once she's settled she sleeps through the night. Adina also loves long walks. She does pull a little but we've been working on her leash skills. She's learning to sit, stay, and come; now we're working on shake! She even knows to wait by the door so I can wipe her down with her grooming wipes. It's so cute! Dog day out report!: Adina was very confident on trails, urban streets, a dog park, and at an outdoor restaurant, with bicycle, runner, walker, and dog interactions, and she was calm the whole time. She is a VERY strong walker and would have run with me if I was ready to; she will need help learning how to walk at less than full speed! She would also be a great hiking buddy. She did fine at the dog park, met other dogs easily and all interactions were positive, but really wasn’t that into playing, chasing, or fetch, seemed happier to leave and continue walking the streets of DC! New foster update, 8 Nov 24: Adina has been adjusting really well, she is a pleasure and joy to have around. She is a very athletic girl who enjoys exercising, exploring, playing with other dogs in dog parks or with her humans at home. She also plays with her toys by herself if you’re busy, but really enjoys it if you play tag of war or fetch with her. As being a true athlete and health enthusiast, (she even eats a few small portion meals a day) she likes to learn and learns very quickly. Her main goal though is to make sure that her human is happy and well protected. She takes pride in listening to you and following your commands. She has been very promising on house training, we haven’t had any accidents. If she really needs to go then she’ll come to you and let you know. Lucky Dog cannot guarantee any dog is housebroken. All of our dogs are working on their crate training.
