Butter is an 11-year-old female who arrived at the shelter on 4/23 as an owner surrender following the passing of her original owner, leaving the family unable to provide care for her. Described as a sweet, friendly, and medium-energy girl, Butter is also litter box trained. However, due to medical concerns, Butter is now in urgent need of medical care to address her various health issues. In addition to medical treatment, Butter craves love and attention to help her transition into a new, caring home. On 4/26 staff noted- Butter is a sweetheart. She was napping in his litter box when I approached and when she saw me he immediately started rolling and seeking pets. Loves head and chin scratches. Very sweet and social kitty! On 4/26 staff noted- What a sweet cat! She was soliciting attention DESPERATELY just before I took my lunch, so I went to give her some pets. She didn't lean in to the pets, so I shut the kennel door to see if she'd feel more secure. But the longer I sat with her, the more clear it became that she just really wanted me to sit near her and give her some company so she could sleep. She'd allow pets and she'd push her head into the bars if I stopped, but clearly she just wanted some physical contact and closeness. Think she'd love to be a lap cat, especially for someone that worked from home since I think she'd be happy to let you type away on a computer. No interest in treats or toys, just wants a person. On 4/25, lab work shows that Butter has mild proteinuria. Rule out secondary to cystocentesis and cellular sample (RBCs), renal proteinuria, or post-renal issues (FIC vs. other). There are occasional struvite, rule out artifacts, FIC, urolithiasis, or other causes. Her urinalysis from cystocentesis indicates that it is well-concentrated (USG 1.047) with inactive sediment, besides mild proteinuria (PRO 2+) and occasional struvite crystals per high-power field. On 4/24, Butter was noted to have severe periodontal disease with bridging calculus and mobile molars, with the 200 and 400 quadrants most affected, showing marked gingivitis, halitosis, and chattering while sedated. No ectoparasites were seen; there was a focal scab lesion on the right lateral abdomen, with no other lesions appreciated. During the examination, she allowed for pets before sedation but became reactive when restrained, indicating suspected oral pain. FeLV/FIV tests came back negative. Problems listed: 1.) Severe periodontal disease-rule out age-related issues vs. trauma vs. neoplasia. 2.) Hyperglobulinemia (6.3)-suspected secondary to problem #1 (inflammation vs. neoplasia). 3.) Thrombocytopenia-suspected secondary to platelet clumping.
