** $350 in pledges to the rescue that pulls ** Babycakes ACCT-A-162281 is currently considered urgent and at risk of euthanasia due to lack of space for incoming dogs, and length of stay. Babycakes must have confirmed placement with an RESCUE PARTNER, FOSTER or ADOPTER by Friday, May 17th at 10 A.M. Should Babycakes's medical or behavioral status change, her urgency and timeline for placement may also change. Babycakes was surrendered to ACCT after her owners could no longer care for her. They described her as housetrained, but reactive to other animals. Notes from staff 5/13: Babycakes was wiggling at the front and whining a bit to come outside. She was eager and did paw at the crack, but was still relatively easy to leash. She is reactive in the kennels and tried to fence fight a bit. She was very wiggly with both handlers, approach regularly and soliciting attention. For her dog meet, Babycakes definitely exhibits consistent frustration and alarm barks quite a bit and pulls strongly towards dogs. When face to face, she was loose with high wags, lacks some manners such as doing some jumping, but overall did very well for her meet. Right when she isn't face to face and is a few feet away she does begin to get frustrated and barks. Sweet girl, seems like she needs to learn to exist around other dogs without needing to say hello. Behavior notes, 4/19: "Babycakes was laying on her bed but got right up and came to the door when she saw me. She greeted [me] with soft eyes and a mid level wagging tail. She was patient for leashing and came right out. "Babycakes was loose with handling but so nervous in the room. She spent the first several minutes sniffing and running around the room. I offered her treats but she didn't take any, just continued trotting in circles. I crouched down and called her over and she came right up, curling up under me and wagging her tail. She accepted some pets and then went back to sniffing and wandering in circles. After a bit she began whining at the door and windows, escape oriented. I was able to distract her with a squeaky toy for a couple minutes, but then she was back at it. I called her up to me and she came right up, leaning into my legs and soaking up some love. She had a loose body and leaned into some side and butt scratches. Babycakes allowed all over handling with no issues, and continued wagging and leaning into me. I offered more treats but she still wouldn't take anything. It took several more minutes of just hanging out before she finally took a treat, very gently, from me. She began trading toys for treats and eating a little." Daytrip notes, 4/22: "She definitely seems a little unfamiliar with the leash but started to adjust after a short period of time. She was great with other people and even children. The only thing that is a bit of a concern was her reaction to other dogs. I took her for a walk on a community trail and she would bark and pounce toward other dogs. Doesn't seem aggressive but just more reactive. Other than that, she's a sweetheart and loves to be around people!!" Outside of her kennel, Babycakes is energetic, bouncy and friendly. She gets frustrated when she can't get too close to other dogs, and comes on pretty strong. She met two nice guys (videos below) and was very vocal and excited to meet them. Her hackles were up, and she played with her paws, but showed no signs of aggression; however, walking through the kennels, she was difficult to disengage when she was fixated on other dogs passing by. Babycakes urgently needs to leave the shelter with someone who understands her need for decompression. She may end up being an "only dog," but she is incredibly affectionate, and would love to have your full attention. If you are interested in an animal please contact ACCT Philly immediately. Due to limited space, timestamps may also be proceeded with early so it is imperative to let us know if you are considering adopting or tagging a dog or cat. Confirmed placement is considered confirmation of an actual rescue pull. Possible placement, interested parties, and other "TBD" statuses are not considered confirmed and do not indicate an animal is no longer urgent.
